Jamie Oliver's 30-Minute Meals, C4 5.30pm

I have discovered that I must sit down and thoroughly read a recipe and method before starting to cook. The act of having to keep checking my printed off recipe slows me down much more than any boiling kettle/pot.

You know those people who have tomato ketchup on everything and you think how can you do that. Doesn't everything just end up tasting the same?

Well after watching Jamie Oliver's new program i'm thinking that olive oil, lemon juice and fresh red chilli is his version of ketchup because he seems to put it on or in everything.

I think he has dyed his hair a few shades darker!. it struck me as soon as i saw him!, not his usual shade of dark blonde!, ;)

I am really enjoying this show, not struck on seeing all the schools things so give them a miss, but i do like Jamie and love seeing his Jamie at home series as well....:)

I've got the book and I totally love the menus he's got in it. I only caught the last 10 minutes but I've Sky+ed it so I'll watch it later.

But what I saw looked great!

In Jamie at home its Oil and Lemon, on literally everything, several times. Next time you watch them look out for it.

Theres times like with the beetroot..he added olive oil to it about 3 times while making the dish, crumbled some feta on, then drizzled more oil! why?! is the drizzle just for poncyness?

I haven't. :D
At the moment I have parsley, chives, coriander & thyme. I'd have to buy those so it would be an extra couple of quid.

(Please let us know how it turns out..I quite fancy the sound of it.:)... Mind you it would be a pretty expensive meal here as there would only be me that would eat it.)

I can't believe you would chosen him over Neighbours 6000th episode this week over on Channel Five!!

Missing the attempting murder of iconic Paul Robinson by one resident!!

A good enough show and full of ideas for meals BUT this show should not be called '30 minute meals'. You can tell it's heavily edited as it's obvious he's not preparing the dishes in real time. The potatoes and other stuff just appear from nowhere and what about all those dishes? It seems more like a meal for a special occasion or dinner party with all those serving dishes. If it was a midweek family meal, most people would put the food directly on the plate for speed and to save all that washing up. This evening he used both a liquidiser and a food processer. We all know how horrible a job it is to wash those gadgets up. He also had several large pans and a baking tray and a very messy chopping board and work surfaces.

Thirty minutes to cook if you are working hell for leather and about an hour's cleaning up.

The spinach feta pie and salaRAB turned out well - just had the leftover slice for lunch! I'm not a huge pine nut fan (don't hate them - just don't love them) so I'd use less next time. They do add a nice crunch though.

(safety tip - Do make sure you cut off most of the extra greaseproof paper before you put the pie back on the stove - I accidentally left a little on and it caught fire!)

The 4 of us were split on which salad we preferred - I favoured the cucumber salad but both were nice. In the end there was nothing left of either so I think that was a good sign.

He also has a slicing attachment, which is quite annoying because I seem to have lost mine. Anyway, that could be another 3-5 minutes slicing veg.

I was watching Can't Cook, Won't Cook this morning and I wondered if this 30 minutes show could do with having 1 or 2 members of the public testing these recipies to prove that they can be done.

Even in that show they most of the prep is done for them.

Ive been fiming for the hairy bikers and one of their round is a 7 minute supper. We had 7 minutes to cook the dish in exactly but when its edited it maybe only 2/3 minutes.
There were three of us cooking it though

I think it's deliberately not aimed at anyone in particular. Certainly, on most shows, not the budget conscious (fillet steak) and others, not the inexperienced (almond and raspberry jam tarts), although he does seem to be having 'themes'.
