James Cameron shows Avatar footage

For those that aren't aware James Cameron (Titanic, Terminator, Aliens) has finally shown footage of Avatar which he has wanted to make for something like 20 years but couldn't due to technological constraints. he's filming it in full 3D with photo realistic CGI. Put simply it is supposedly going to be the best looking film of all time and break boundaries etc etc etc.

Thing is we've seen nothing and it's supposedly out this December. Now though he's shown a select group of journos footage and apparently it's "stunning, literally jaw-dropping. Amazing visuals unlike any before seen, with incredible detail."

Nice to see it's living up to the hype

I've got a feeling this will be the first movie to really wow me since Fellowship of the Ring hit cinemas. Prior to that it was T2.

Sometimes a film comes along and wraps you in such a spectacle that it changes your perception of filmmaking. I think this will be one of those films (else it will be a colossal disappointment!!)

I'm a big fan of JC but going by Cameron's own tedious description of the film at the recent Ubisoft launch and what's been revealed so far (the game mainly) this could be another Final Fantasy-type flop I reckon rather than the mainstream hit it neeRAB to be. It just doesn't grab me - it sounRAB more like a game than a film.
And 3D films can give you a headache a while.
Maybe I'm just getting old.
I'd rather he made Aquaman instead ;-).

It does sound pretty good, I am not hyping it up for myself though.

I am surprised that there has been next to no far-reaching publicity for this. Outside of forum land when ever I mention Avatar people either:

A) Have no idea what I am talking about.

Or..

B) Think I am talking about The Last Airbender

James Cameron better get his arse moving and get together a teaser trailer at least :D

Here's an exclusive shot from Avatar - the Avatar homeworld:

And one of the amazing CGI aliens called Tarla:

Looks incredible! ;)

I suspect CG company Image Metrics is the real star of Avatar. They created the softare to make lifelike facial CGI possible and they're British too. You can Google them for more details.

James Cameron will get all the praise but it's Image Metrics photo realistic facial mapping software that has made Avatar possible.

This is what you'll see in Avatar:

This is the level of facial detail, facial movement, you'll see in Avatar. It's groundbreaking technology. Never been done before.

**HolRAB hanRAB up***

Until this very minute I thought James Cameron's Avatar was something to do the Legend of Ang, it now seems actually quite interesting.

I always thought it was quite a big budget for a mediocre kiRAB tv show/video game frachise. :o

Impressive but as many people said of Beowulf (which I rather liked), why not just use real actors in make up?

Many peeople will look at this and think 'I'm watching a 2 hour intro for a video game.'
