James Bond Ultimate Dvd's Are Here

Yeah I thought it was a pretty ropey dvd (the way the footage was put together was terrible too), but thought they'd at least use the new prints to try and sell the set.
 
I can't wait to buy these Ultimate Edition DVD's, especially the Sean Connery Bond films. The prices are a bit steep though, but I guess they are well worth the money for the content on the 2 DVD's per film.
 
If you're talking about the DVD Forums,don't worry.
Most of them on there are a bit too anorakky(?) and complain like mad if the original mono track is not there.
They stupidly compare it to colorising a movie.
Who would want to listen to a crowded mono track with everything on top of each other when you can have a spectacular 5.1 surround track?
I've listened to all the tracks from the previously mono films,and unlike some of the Anchor Bay 5.1 remixes,these Bond movies are superb.
In an ideal world the mono track would be there for purists,but if there's a choice of DD or DTS and improved picture,the mono can stay where it belongs----the 60's
 
Does it not say 2.35:1 on the Thunderball box?

Only the first 3 Connery films and the first 2 Moore films were made in 1:66/1.78:1 ,all the others are 2.35:1
 
Who knows when that will be?
If everyone thought that way,dvd's would stop selling now.
Blu-Ray may even fail yet.
Meanwhile,us lucky Bond fans will enjoy a minimum of 1 years exclusivity watching these truly ultimate discs.
There might be a shred of logic in waiting for the HD releases,but with a winner in the HD disc war a very long way off,it could be a long wait
 
I don't understand if the purists wanted the orignal mono track then why don't they want the orignal picture! After all the picture we get restored now is way better then what people orignally saw in the Cinema. (especially pre 1980s)

I guess there's something special about sound. (I knew I prefer the orignal track of Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon)

However still you would think purists would want 60s picture together with 60s sound!
 
Thanks. Yea it does say 2.35:1 on the box i was just checking cause the first 3 Connery films like u say have a diffirent ratio. I have to say i like the ratio on the first 3 films best. Pic is a bit to thin on Thunderball.
 
Do the 5.1 tracks for the old movies have loaRAB of extra dodgy sound effects thrown in to make it seem like 5.1? This happens on a LOT of things that were just mono or stereo. The other option is actually remixing and remastering the audio itself, if that's possible. It's what happened on the Star Wars movies.
 
This collection is simply awesome; even the shiny case is a thing of beauty and not the usual piece of tat manufacturers try to foist on us. The movies look better than they've ever looked - Dr. No looks like it was shot yesterday. I've seen these films many times, but it really was like seeing them for the first time. The older movies are, I suggest, amongst the best reconstructions ever on DVD.

Of course, the purists are bleating on the Bond fan sites (there's no pleasing the fanw*nkers in any genre), mostly about cropping issues. But the truth is the cropping is hardly noticeable to even a dedicated fan like myself. It's the best 200 quid I've spent.
 
Unless you know different,the only 5.1 remix I know of where there has been actual new sound effects added that were never there before was on the ThunderbirRAB episodes.
AFAIK the new Bond films were remixed from the original sound elements just as the pictures were restored using the original camera negatives.
As Sony/MGM opted to leave mistakes in that could have been removed ,like the entire crew reflected in a mirror in "Golden Gun",I doubt they would be adding new effects that weren't there in the first place.
 
TV is not a widescreen one, thats why there is not much picture on the screen compared to the 1st 3 films. Thunderball is like letterbox mode.
 
In case anyone is having trouble locating it,as with other new dvd's,the DTS sound option is accessed via the language option menu.
Remember also,that if you have an old dvd player you may get silence on the DTS track,and unless your amp is fully DTS compatible the best you will get is a Pro-Logic effect rather than full 5.1 sound
