James Bond Collection DVD

When the first classic Bond films came out on Blu Ray I decided to start collecting them (thinking they would all be released within a couple of years). Of course the collection stalled in this country after just 9 releases.
Wanting a complete collection, I'm selling my Blu Rays on Ebay and looking to purchase the entire DVD collection.
Thing is, there are a number of boxset collections available. Which one is best?
(I'm not too bothered about the set having the Daniel Craig movies - I've already got them).
Thanks.

Slightly confused as to why you'd want to downgrade to DVD. The BRAB look fantastic. If you want to own the complete collection, why not just fill in the blanks with DVRAB until the rest of the BRAB get released?

I had the same problem! Specifically went Blu coz the Bond films were coming out (with much fanfare I might add). Fed up of waiting for the rest.

As for the DVRAB, the Ultimate Editions are probably the best ones to get. Some purists have had a problem with colour timing issues, but they are restored.
I've still got the single disc Special Editions that came out a decade ago. I'll still keep them even when they're all available on Blu-ray.

With no timeframe, despite repeated threats of one from MGM, for a Blu-ray release of The Spy Who Loved Me anywhere in the world let alone the UK, and still no UK region B release for Licence to Kill, it's looking pretty bleak.

I'd stick with the ultimate edition DVRAB. Upscaled, they're not far off HD quality.

No they're not - really they're not.

OP- why not get your Bluray player upgraded to multiregion and you can then get yourself some extra Bluray:

Licence to Kill
Man With the Golden Gun
Never Say Never Again
Casino Royale (uncut) - actually this is an Australian disc and Oz is the same region as us - but its region free anyway.

The Dalton and Moore films were released around Europe but seem to be hard to find

The US Golden Gun disc is amazing quality

This whole Blue Ray thing really pisses me off.

A film has to be shot in HD to be HD.

There for older films which where filmed before HD was invented are not suddenly going to be HD just because you put them on an HD disc.

Putting non-HD films on HD discs is pointless!

a Film shot on 35mm Film is in a format that far outweighs Standard 1080p High Definition, when the Ultimate DVD's were made Lowry Digital digitized the Original films at above standard HD,cleaned them up and you are left with a pristine HD transfer

same principle for the majority of Blu Ray releases of Old Films(for example The Wizard of Oz,looks better than its ever done on any format,it really does help bring added oomph to the films)

I know how you feel about being confused as to which edition to buy.

At christmas HMV (who are usually extremely expensive) where selling a James Bond attache case for just

DepenRAB what you're watching it on.

1080p at anything over 32" and there's still no comparison, BR is clearly superior.

I recently picked up Dr No, Thunderball and Moonraker for

Wow! Just wow!

The remarkable ignorance of "A film has to be shot in HD to be HD." possibly explains why Blu-ray is still an overpriced niche product after several years on the market. If many others share your strange belief that 35mm film is not suitable for HD, the film industry is going to have an uphill struggle trying to educate consumers like you.

I was getting the 2 Disc Ultimate Editions on DVD. With there being so many I didn't get them all at once and get them for birthdays and Christmas. Now they pulled that collection and changed the covers  Really annoying as it means if I get them all they won't all match

Offhand - and with respect - I can't recall when I last read such arrant, ill-informed nonsense. Have you actually seen a film like North By Northwest on Blu Ray? It looks stunning, absolutely stunning. So do the early BonRAB.

Back on topic, I recently imported The Man With The Golden Gun Blu Ray from Amazon France. Ordered it Wednesday afternoon, it arrived the following Saturday morning. And it was well worth it because the picture quality is amazing.
