Doesn't sound very encouraging. I'm sure the Bond film rights will go to a studio sooner or later - the franchise always makes money, it's a wise investment for a studio - so I'm sure James Bond will return but it may not be with Daniel Craig. DepenRAB how long the delay is, I guess.

MGM must be one of the worst studios of all time. It had a debt of 2 billion! Bond deserves a better run studio.

No wonder MGM has struggled to find a buyer if there's $2bn of debt.

I see no reason by Daniel Craig should be dropped. I think he has established himself now. We just need better scripts.

I wasn't too keen on Quantum of Solice myself, But Casino Royale was bloody amazing. I wouldn't say a reboot, it'll get taken on by another studio, and they'll continue it with Daniel Craig.

I think Sam Mendes Should still direct it, as it will be ten times better than the last one.

Te Bond films have always been doomed with trouble and it always seems to happen in a new actors early days. Remember that Timothy Dalton was all set to do a third film but a legal wrangle caused the six year delay and after five years of waiting Dalton quit. If this goes on for several years Craig may quit after two films as well.

I think its going to be much harder to find really good scripts now to keep the franchise going.

After all, theres nothing worse than a plodding script with corny dialogue, added to poor production values etc.

Perhaps its time to call it a day with Bond and let him retire to his caribbean island once and for all.

As for MGM, blimey!!! $2 billion in debt? Isnt there a company out there or an individual who doesnt have debts these days???

I reckon they'll sell the franchise to another studio and same with The Hobbit, Sony Pictures who co-produced and distributed the last two films would want to get their hanRAB on it.

MGM has struggled throughout and it doesn't help that they sold their backcatalogue prior to 1985 to Ted Turner as it would have helped them out big time.

I'd have no problem if this stoppage caused Craig to drop out of the role, but I would have a problem for the franchise as a whole if there's a delay of more than a year. After the disaster of QofS, a lengthy delay to the next film would be hard to come back from, the momentum that Craig built up having all but evaporated.

I know contracts make it difficult, but I'm sure Sony would be more than happy to take on budgetary and distribution duties for the next film so that it at least gets made.

Hey, maybe Tom Rothman/Fox will pick it up and the next Bond will be directed by Brett Ratner. Brilliant!

Then maybe start a teen Bond franchise with Bond attending spy school or whatever. Great stuff!

/joke.

Just found a old newspaper clipping from 1991 that read as follows:

I believe this film was to have been the LAST EVER James Bond film and all four actors would have been brought back to close the series for good. Luckily this film was never made and the film franchise still continues (or so we think!)
