Jailbreak iPod Touch 2g?

Is jailbreaking and iPod Touch 2g worth it? I mostly just want to download free apps... What are the Positive and Negatives to this? Can I still connect it with iTunes and get my music? Can I update my iPod when I connect it to iTunes? Will any data get deleted off my iPod beside the app highscores and stuff? Is it laggy? Sorry for all of the questions...
