How could the rights just happen to "not be available" in regions outside of the US? Sony made the series and runs the Crackle service.

Possible that someone else has the online distribution rights. they were probably packaged in with the television and home video distribution rights back in the days --

I'm not entirely sure. I just know that rights are not available in certain places.

Like when I click into some video I may get a message saying "This video is not available in your area/region" or something like that.

Online rights are diferent from Broadcast rights they are negociated apart just like VHS/DVD mess with some old series
