okay we've talked about this before....

Is JackFlash safe to use for the T3 I want to get rid of versamail because i'm gonna try iambic mail with the new release of agendus.

Me! Me! I want this one! Wahoo!!! Another potential brave convert!!!

I think JackSprat/JackFlash is the best thing since sliced bread. JackSprat 3.0beta3 reacted to a BAD FLASH CHIP BUG in the T3, resulting in a holy mess for myself and others. Brayder supplied me with a new ROM since restore was impossible from backup.

The DAY 3.0b4 came out, I tried again - with success. Still, there were a few minor glitches affecting maybe 0.5% of users - and that's apparently been fixed now with 3.0b5.

There are two basic keys to success with JackSprat and YES you can remove VERSAMAIL:
1. Try to eliminate EVERYTHING you want "out" on the FIRST PASS and back up if possible to the SD CARD rather than desktop. This will alleviate having a separate user name to choose from (cycling hermes AND "jsBackup" or whatever it's called). If this doesn't bother you, then DO BOTH. I've never needed to restore from a screw up because I'm careful - the restore I had to do was regarding the "white screen of death" where I had to just let the T3 battery drain to FORCE a hard reset; it would not react to anything else.

2. Some simple steps, in ORDER, will help you:
A. FIRST REMOVE the 4MB of extra languages FIRST THING! - that's right - 4MB!!
B. REMOVE Docs2Go in ROM AND their "add-ons." YOu can then move your upgraded Docs2Go Version (hopefully 6.008) into FLASH and not have 2 copies, as you probably have now.
C. REMOVE all other "crap" like WELCOME, QUICKTOUR, KINOMA (you can install the UPGRADED Kinoma in its place later).
D. REMOVE VersaMail (something like 1.5 MB there, I think). NOW . . . . WAIT . . . READ THIS: VersaMail will remain on your Palm Desktop, as will Palm Photos if you delete that as well. VersaMail can't really be deleted from the PC - and if you figure out how let me know because I'd love to but can't "get it all." Not only will Agendus work in Flash, but Iambic mail should as well.
E. REMOVE anything else you don't want (I got rid of Photos as stated above, and REAL PLAYER, and CALCULATOR since I use two other calculators). Eliminating Calc doesn't preclude using others; it only gets rid of the silly "stock" one.

I freed up 9867k - almost 10MB, and STILL have 2400k left of flash. I have 95% free in RAM according to the T3, and 98% according to TealMover - with 59 applications running!

When you finish "Spratting," do one soft reset more than they say to do, then load JackFlash, "initialize" the flash per instructions, and INSTALL JACKSAFE (included). This is MOST IMPORTANT, as it allows RESTORE of all FLASHED APPS after a hard reset. I can literally hard reset, go to the SD Card, hit "CardBackup" and restore the small amount that's in RAM - and be up and running in 45 seconds flat. It's just amazing.

The downside: it's not a toy and you can REALLY "F" up your T3. But what the hell . . . . Cobalt's just around the corner anyway!!
HAHAHAHA!

One more hint: load apps in flash FIRST that won't be "upgraded every 5 minutes." I put Agendus in there LAST, for obvious reasons. This decreases the amount of times JackFlash will "compact your flash" to get every bit of space available. Sometimes this can cause a "hiccup," and all you do is reinstall via hotsync the "glitched app" and move to flash. I personally ALWAYS do a soft reset when moving ANYTHING TO OR FROM Flash - or you may not have to because it will do it for you with what I call a "brain fart crash." This often happens when something has to be activated like "SyncBack" or "TealScript," and usually JackFlash will WARN YOU and refuse to move it until it's been "deactivated." FindHack is another one that won't go until it's "switched off first."

Here are some apps you SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT PUT IN FLASH:

ClipPro
TealMaster
TealLaunch
TealTools (or ANY desktop accessory apps like AkUtility)
TealLock
SplashPhoto
AND VERY IMPORTANTLY,
the full MAKESPOT app included with Agendus
(Thanks MooseMan! That was the "crashing problem")

Applications can go in flash, DATABASES and saved prefs can not. Do not, for instance, put Agendus Icons in flash. ONLY the .prc's.

Push it til it starts smokin' - that's what I say. I think you'll love it.

Is Jacksprat/flash worth 26.95 on a T3?

How much space will it save me if I have 23MB free right now? Can I get back up to 40-50 MB free?

It sounds like a good idea, but 26.95 seems high for something that may break my machine and which I know nothing about.

Just for my five bob's worth - I'm a convert, too! Had a problem initially getting rid of some apps that had been installed prior to purchase for using Chinese characters: JackSprat simply didn't recognize their presence it seems. Got an email this morning from Brayder with a copy of an updated version of JackSprat....which whipped 'em out without a flicker of hesitation.

Very good products and remarkable backup. Money well spent.

I PERSONALLY appreciate that, being such a big fan myself.

COOL, isn't it? You'll NEVER fill up the 52MB now, ryetee . . . that is unless you're using a lot of music/photo/kinoma files (better on the card anyway!). Remember also that now your BACKUP files of what's in RAM will be a lot smaller too - and that really adds up should you keep two sets like I do.

Congratulations. Remember - apps listed above will SERIOUSLY mess you up in flash -- ask away if you've got questions on anything else.

Isn't Brad Kish super? I wonder if that "upgrade" applies specifically to Chinese characters or if it's one those of us WITHOUT the Chinese characters could do with? Hmmm . . . .

Anyway - good goin'!!!!
