I usually don't start posts myself as I often feel more compelled to answer or comment on others, but I felt I needed to get the word out on this before it's too late.

This TV, a digital network available as a subchannel on many TV stations across the country will be airing the 1967 Toei Doga classic "Jack & The Witch" this Saturday morning at 8AM EST/5AM PST.

Here's an interesting blog review of the film for those to check out!

Awesome! I actually have this sub-channel, so maybe I can check this out...

...If one of our cats hadn't destroyed the cable box last week.

Aw man, I don't have this channel in my area. I've been wanting to check this movie out for ages.

I saw a few clips of the dub as part of Mike Tool's con panels on forgotten anime dubs.

As to whether this film had a US release before: The blog post Mr. Donut linked to states somewhere that the English version was done by Titan Productions, which also dubbed Toei's "Puss in Boots" and "Animal Treasure Island". These films were shown on US in the 1970's on TV as part of some syndication package, so "Jack and the Witch" may have been distributed the same way.

I feel your pain too.

A guy who neeRAB not be mentioned 'round here since his presence is enough (let alone voice)!

It was. The distributor was American-International Television, a division of American-International Pictures, who had a nuraber of Toei's animated feature films that were either seen on TV or available as film rentals in the 70's. I think total there were 4 or 5 titles. Jack & The Witch (1967), The Little Norse Prince (1968), The Wonderful World of Puss 'n Boots (1969) and Treasure Island (1971). They also had Alakazam The Great, from a previous theatrical release in 1961 that was probably also distributed in the same fashion too (though the film did see a widescreen release theatrically). When American-International went under, Orion Pictures bought their assest which probably included the Toei features and other Japanese imports like Prince Planet and Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot. This of course is now part of MGM's library though some question over the legal right to these on an individual basis is still yet to be determined. One company, Something Weird Video, released a DVD that included an episode of "Prince Planet" some years ago out of possible Public Domain status (meaning expired copyright).

See why they're still important in today's society! I still see many houses that have their antenna towers blazing the sky!
