I have not posted for a little while but here is a quick flash back and happy ending:
I purchased 2 sets of J&M speakers and 2 amps from Dr VTWIN
for myself and a buddy of mine. He has an 09 street glide I have an 2010 street glide. We installed his first as we had received only 1 amp first and my bike was in the shop getting dyno'd. Speakers went in easily and sounded great on his bike, amp came bout 3 days later and we did install very carefully but could not get any sound out of his bike. after tracing everything and posting here and great support from Shawn at DR VTWIN and John at J&M, Nothing worked we could not get the 1st amp working. The 2nd amp arrived and Shawn and John recommended that I try it in my Buddy's bike, so I did and it still did not work. It was very frustrating but again Shawn was very supportive and asked me to try it in my bike. I got my bike back and installed the amp and it worked. So it seemed there was something wrong with his 09 and John thought it might be a specific problem with a specific vin run of 09 street glides and he was gonna try and figure it out. Anyways we hooked his bike back up to the speakers with no amp and it worked perfectly and btw the speakers rock even with out the amp.
Ok so now my speakers and amp are working and sounding outrageous and the next day I go out cruising and loving the sound and all of a sudden nothing. NO SOUND I'm freaking I email Shawn tell him what happened and he was kinda upset and I tell him I'm gonna try and trace everything and figure all of this out. HERE IS WHAT I FIGURED OUT:
After removing the fairing and checking all connections disconnecting and reconnecting they were all installed correctly. I than noticed that the amp was flashing intermittently 8 flashes where before it would flash on power and than be solid. I could not find anything wrong under the fairing so I traced the power wired back under the seat. First I removed the positive and reinstalled. Still no sound. next I removed the ground. look at picture below.
When I removed the ground I noticed all of the paint surrounding the bolt area and wondered how good of a ground surfface this was. I decided to try a different ground point so I used the strap running from the bottom of the tank, there is a bolt and I attached the ground there. I try'd the radio and WOOOT the radio and amp worked. I now decided to try my Buddy's 09 again of which i just got done tonight and WOOOOOT it also worked. I think this amp is sensitive to ground and I would highly recommend using the ground strap under the tank. THE BEST PART IS THRU ALL OF THIS SHAWN AT DR VTWIN HAS FOLLOWED ME AND SUPPORTED ME ALL THE WAY, AND THE BOTTOM LINE IS I WOULD DO THIS ALL OVER AGAIN BECAUSE THIS J&M AMP AND SPEAKER COMBO SOUND FANTASTIC.
THANKS SHAWN FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP
