J&M 7.25 Speaker Review

I personally email the J&M rep on this posting but no response. I would love to get these speakers but I need better understanding on which one I should purchase. Anybody have any suggestions?

If you are using the deck to power the speakers, it would normally be 8 ohm. Most car decks are spec'd for 4-8 ohm speakers. You can double check the specs of the deck in your instruction manual or online if it still exists. A 2 ohm speaker would overheat the deck amplifier at loud volume levels if it's not spec'd for 2 ohm.

If you are running the speakers through an aftermarket amp, then wouldn't be using the decks amp so you'd need to verify the aftermarket amps spec's.

Something to double check. See if one speaker is wired out of phase from the other. That is one speakers +/- is hooked up correctly and the others is wired backwards -/+. That would cause the one speakers sound waves to cancel the others out. Very common mistake lots of people make in home and car stereos. Poor imaging and poor base response are the typical outcome.

gasneed ,,,,

I am sorry, I remember responding to your e-mail ,,, must have not gotten thru ,,,,

the Sony radio should handle the 2 ohm J&M 7.25s just fine ,,,,,

New J&M amp ((J&M part# JAMP-250HC06)) will be on the J&M website within 48 hours ,,,, and released for sale on/or about 03-31/2010 ,,,,,,

we did a lot of testing/comparing and the new J&M 250w full range class G in-fairing mounted amplifier will outperform all others in this size range, with your fairing mounted speakers, regardless of brand ,,,,, and with the 2-ohm J&M 7.25"s, they absolutely ROCK ,,,, and I would not say that if it wasn't true ,,,

I called a J&M rep at the 1-800 number and he said that if my radio isn't rated at 2ohms, I should get the 8ohm speakers. So, ill probably get a qualified amp to power the 2ohm speakers.

That is correct, MOST aftermarket head units cannot handle a 2 ohm load. Curious to know if the Sony truly does or is that just an assumption??

FYI everyone, new J&M AMP is on our site here at an introductory special!!!
