WTF...first everyone was gushing over them...best thing since sliced bread. Now they sound terrible and need a amp to perform adequately?

WildThang ,,,,,

I don't know ,, I was at the bikefest in Vegas, standing out by the J&M demo trailer, demonstrating the new J&M 7.25's right along with our guys ,,,

they are not only MUCH louder than stock but have a MUCH wider frequency range, more bass and highs ,,, now maybe my ears are old and fat along with the rest of me now, but the difference is night and day and no, you don't need an amp ,,,,

wish you all could have seen the joy on the 15 or so riders faces of the bikes we installed the speakers into, as they rode away from our trailer ,,,,

they work, the performance difference is real ,,,,

those who now pooh pooh them either have ears different than mine or other reasons ,,,

don't know what else to say ,,,,

My comment wasn't to throw stones at you or your product...but was simply wondering why everyone was so positive about them at first and then we start getting comments about them sounding bad. I was actually looking forward to trying them out for a winter-type project...probably was going to couple them with an amp (long before it was suggested they need one). Given my location, I will probably never get a chance to hear them myself...so it may take a leap of faith (or some feedback from someone with actual audio-type experience) before I entertained purchasing them....

John,

Don't know what to say. Everyone we have sold them to has given us very positive feedback. We haven't had any complaints at all! We even have your 7.25" speakers on our own 09 Street Glides and we love them! They are simply awesome and we haven't seen another speaker come anywhere close.

You really can't evaluate these speakers and give negative feedback until you actually own a set and have ridden with them on your bike at various speeds. That is what I personally did.

Everyone has different opinions on what music type they enjoy and until you adjust the bass and treble settings to your preferred levels, it is really tough to evaluate them by simply standing next to them at a booth with the speakers mounted on a wall.

One must take into account the headunit pushing the speakers, if the acoustic foam padding was present, what music type was playing, etc; before really making a decision on if they like them or not.

When we conduct demos here in our showroom, we have a CD that has various types of music that really show the sheer performance of the speakers. We also ask potential buyers to bring in a CD with their music of their choice so they can actually hear their preferred music type playing through the new J&Ms.

I have the BT480 watt amp and I'm running two pairs of the Hertz speakers from Biketronics. Tons of power, crystal clear sound, and not an ounce of distortion from the 5.25" in the lower fairings, or the 6.5" in the batwing fairing. You get what you pay for when you buy high end equipment such as the Biketronics products, and behind that comes one of the best warranties in the industry. Lifetime!

Appreciate the reviews here but speakers alone will not make the HK head unit perform any better. If you want real sound, buy a good quality amp like the BT series and get their Hertz speakers which are made in Italy. Now you're talking high quality components.

The vast majority of the comments in this thread are favorable and from folks who own the speakers. Only a couple comments were less than enthusiastic. Not enough to warrant a waveoff, imho.

I purchased and installed a pair of 7.25" J&M speakers a couple of weeks ago and absolutely love them. I'm running a 50W Hogtunes amp on them and they sound great on the highway.

On a side note, it would be nice if the new J&M amps are more affordable than the Hogtunes amp, which was pricey when I bought it a couple years ago.

There will always be people that are never satisfied and want to rain on everyone elses parade no matter what. Then there are others that are so picky about perfection that they think that anything less is crap.

I just read through all 16 pages of this review and I have come to the personal conclusion that John from J & M is totally honest and straight up about his product. I also think that Shawn and all you other guys with positive things to say are being straight up about exactly what these speakers will do for the price.

I'm probably like 95% of the people out there on this touring forum that just want some obvious improvement to the stock system, easy install, decent price and honest customer service. I also like the idea of plug and play without dicking around with an amp. Yes you can spend tons of $$$ and go nuts with amps and woofers and tweeters and flux capacitors and 80,000 jigawatts, but most of us don't wan't or need that. We just want to ride and have our stereos sound decent.

So....... To put my money where my mouth is, I just got off the phone with Dr. V-Twin and ordered up the combo front and rear speaker deal. Shawn was great to speak with about the product and will get them out to me asap along with t-shirts for both me and my wife.

Thanks John, Shawn and everyone else for the information.

guess my ears must not be as good as i thought they were. ive been a clarity freak all my life. i put alot of money in stereo equipment in my personal work trucks. i do the work myself for a reason, i want it done right. the speakers went into my sg just as smooth as they sound. its a 2 ohm speaker, if its not louder than your stock head unit sucks. i have not put an amp to them, have not decided which one i want yet. they sound pretty darn good for there size. they dont need an amp but im a freak and just have to put one in. so ya its personal preference but anybody with half an ear could tell they are worth every dime.
