I've never seen 'the godfather'

I avoided it for ages because I didn't want to just jump on the bandwaggon but I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it and don't really understand some of the criticism towarRAB the Third installment.

I thought the ending was spectacular but nothing beats Part Two and the whole thing between Pacino and his brother (won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it).

I hate it when people say...oh but you have to see it, it's one of the greatest films of all time. If people see a trailer for something and say that it's not their cup of tea then I respect that.

Having said that The Godfather is pretty darn spectacularly amazingly brilliant!!
 
I made myself sit through both Godfather I + II. I couldn't get into either of them. I felt no emotional connection to the film. I was bored through most of it and it was really a chore to get to the end. I had watched I first and had heard that II was better, which is why i sat through both of them. Ex-BF loved them, I just couldn't get interested.
 
If you liked the original, I'd say so. The most common complaints about Godfather III are Sofia Coppola's acting and the belief it's not as 'epic' as the first two; for many people it was a step down in quality from I & II but still a decent film in its own right.

Enjoy Part II, it's the best one.
 
I saw part 1 once, about a year ago, and found it slightly dull. To be honest, I couldn't recount the story properly from memory, because my interest waned after the first hour or so.

As for the IMDB list, I've seen 8 of the top 10 and I can say that I think only Pulp Fiction and 12 Angry Men belong there.
 
Nothing to be ashamed of, the man is a god. I actually fancy him more in later films though, when he's a bit more rugged and manly and so on...
 
I'm obviously in the minority when it comes to G2. I thought the De Niro/Vite Corleone stuff was magnificent, and truly a real spectacle to watch, but the "current day" stuff being drawn out tosh (other than the "You broke my heart" line).
 
I've never seen The Godfather either, but it's definately in my *to see* list, especially after playing the video game for it which I really enjoyed.

I think the main thing that's put me off from watching it, is the films running time. I struggle watching a 2 hour movie usually and The Godfather is 3 hours long I think. But from what I've heard, it's really gripping and never gets boring.
The next time it's on Film Four I will definatley watch it I think, or I might take a chance and get the DVD.
 
It's all about the first Godfather the second was showing people the heart and soul of the mafia.And that's the bit that most don't understand about the mafia how it started how it came together.

I've never watched any of the Godfather films or the likes of the Sopranos because I'm not particularly interested in Mafia violence and Italian-American stereotypes, thanks.
 
I think the point with ganster films is that most of the characters are very unpleasnt people who get killed without you being bothered that much. Unlike most films where you have a hero(s) that you build up a liking for and wish them to end up better off than they were at the start of the film. If you watched "The Take" that is what I mean, they are all rotten people.
