I've never seen 'the godfather'

'To the mattresses' you really must take time and watch these movies, so many movies take quotes from them, that have probably passed you by.

For some reason, i have never felt the urge to watch this film or series. I looked at the top 250 on imdb last week and found out i haven't seen 13 of the top 15 films, so i watched shawshank and that was awesome, and now feel i should watch godfather.

Is is REALLY a must-see??

we've just finished watching part 2 and i do think it's better in some ways than part one but i love marlon brando in this part which is why i loved part one!
we're starting part 3 tonight:D

terrific trilogy of films, but like other posters have said here, it's not to everyone's liking

i love it:D

It's an acquired taste. You either like it or you find it extremely overlong and ponderous.

The first time i watched it i thought it was boring (i was like 10 years old at the time...), but then i watched it again about 5 years later and liked it a lot more. I'm nearly 21 now and i've got the Blu Ray boxset! lol. As much as i like it though, i still think it's overrated.

he's a very gifted actor
i have always liked al pacino and marlon brando:D

i've never seen 'taxi driver' so i've just put it on my rental list for dvd rental:D

Gotta admit, I've never sat through the GF either, heaven knows how many times I tried but I just can't get into it.

Whilst on the subject, a friend of mine was once given a musical jewellery box by her nan, and for some reason it played the God Father theme, which totally freaked her out - 'maybe my nan was trying to tell me something' she said. :D

I think it's overrated. I'll admit gangster films aren't really my cup of tea anyway but I found The Godfather to be overly long, often confusing, and with no emotional point of entry.

I'm not a massive fan of The Godfather Part II either but it's better in the sense that you get a more emotionally involving character arc; the end of the original just left me thinking "Okay, so what happened and why should I care?"

With films as highly rated as The Godfather, I always want to watch them just to see what the fuss is about. If you're like me, give it a shot for that reason.

The Godfather is the ultimate gangster flick! An epic movie! Superbly written, and iconic performances.

If you like crime/gangster movies, you'll love it - Even if you don't, try it and you might be impressed.

It is one of my favourite movies of all time, and I'm certainly not one to jump on bandwagons.

I think you might be disappointed. I think it's one of those films that you remember being much much better than it actually is. Always voted top 3 in blokes top 10 movies ever(out of laziness and machismo) despite the fact that they last saw it when they were 9 and don't really remember it. In reality it's just a long dull movie where not much happens.

Pacino's gurning face of a man with constipation as he prepares to kill someone in a restaurant is considered to be some of the finest acting ever seen.

Which is odd because it is actually just a constipated man sitting in a restaurant. Gurning.

I am also another who has not seen any of the Godfathers, I just haven't got round to it. FrienRAB really have a dig considering the fact that I love Gangster/Mafiosi films like Goodfellas, Donnie Brasco, Casino Once upon a time in america etc. It's kinda weird because I just atm anyway feel like watching them. :(

I seen bits of the first half. The usual gangster guff and Brando's mumblings never hooked me in.

I suppose it's on the list on films I should see, but there's loaRAB of those, and to be honest watching a film because I should always loses out to watching a film I want to see...

I used to be (still am) slightly obsessed with the godfather (before watching it), and the concept of the mafia. Its quite worrying the obsession to be honest. So I was always worried to watch it in case I was actually really disappointed. But I wasn't, I love it everything about it I find great. Especially the last scenes, and the music. Some scenes are a bit uncomfortable to watch, but its adRAB to it.

Also it makes me have a strange crush on Al Pacino :o
