I've never played a Gamecube game until now

the only absolute must have's imho for the gamecube:

mario kart double dash (best racer game EVER + great multi-player)
resident evil 4 (best in series, best zombie(ish) game, best action- MUST HAVE)

that's it. others are optional and fun. those are mandatory.

Resident Evil
Resident Evil Zero
Resident Evil 4 (If you buy only one Gamecube game, it must be this one)
Metorid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Eternal Darkness
Viewtiful Joe
Viewtiful Joe 2
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Zelda: Wind Waker
Super Mario Sunshine
Beyond Good & Evil
Pikmin
Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door

Minty,

I didn't know "Beyond Good and Evil" came out for the GC. I bought it for the PC and stopped playing when I got stuck. Supposedly about 80% of games are never finished because either people get bored or they get stuck. And that's the reason why some people say that Z:TP is too easy, because it was written so that most people won't get stuck. There is nothing worse than a game that frustrates you and you end up bouncing the controller off the wall.

I finally got a hold of a pristine copy of Starfox: Adventures, today. $8. Now I'm looking for Prince of Persia: Warrior Within to satiate my blood lust.

I gave Metro Prime: Echoes a chance but ended getting stuck within the first 10 minutes. So I took the rental back and the series has soured on me. Metro Prime III should be coming out in a few months.

But people, get the GC games while you can. The unit has been retired and there won't be any more games coming out for it. I also found out that the original XBox has been retired. If Sony permanently retires the PS2 it'll be sucking pond water and probably go under. I figure the PS2 has about another 2 or 3 years left in it. Hey, if the Wii is selling games that look like the PS2, then Sony might as well allow the developers to keep writing games for it. My next two PS2 purchases will be God of War II and Rogue Galaxy. I ain't giving up my PS2.

Get these games ^^

Super Smash
Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition and Wind Waker
Metroid Prime
Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes
Mario Kart
Paper Mario

I love all the Gamecube games, but to be honest, most don't have a high amount of replay value. I do play Mario Kart on the GC quite often with my friends...but other than that I've mostly only played my GC games one time through. Having said that, the best ones I played the single time were Zelda Wind Waker, Star Fox Adventures, and of course, Super Smash Bros.

What kind of rpg's do you like? I take it that you like BK1 more because of the Cell Shading. Or you prefer BK2 because it is more real? I've heard that the music isn't so great. The game snap shots do justice that BK1 is probably the most beautiful game out for the GC. But how's the game play? Is it free roaming or is it on set paths? Is it more of an action RPG, a stragedy RPG, a fighting RPG (ala Tekken), or an FF RPG (about a 45 degree Diablo game). How far back is the camera?

Anyway, I can't rent these 2 games, I've read a lot of reviews, and BK1 isn't too bad at $18, used, or $20, new.

Baten Kaitos 1 and 2 look essentially the same. There's really no difference. No cell shading at all. The music for the first Baten Kaitos was brilliant. The second not so much. It has a few nice tracks but there's not as much variety. It's completely free roaming, you just move around wherever you want. Camera is not an issue at all since you're more or less looking down at the map from an angle. The card battles are probably going to be what make or break it for you. Personally, I really liked them. However, the battles are a lot different between no. 1 and 2.
