First, the reader is given an explanation of a world in another dimension, which is fueled by our living. Every time our heart pumps, or a plant grows, this life is made into energy which shoots into this world and powers all time, feelings and movement there.
In amongst this world, there are two cities as islands. One is fairly well built and respectable, whilst the other is a down town mess, with crime and selfishness ruling over all else. The two cities, once a large island but separated by the Gods, rarely communicate, hence their lack of bridges and other devices used to join the two small islands together. Each city has a king who lives in a castle, who shares half of the crown. Mrs McArthur, a young maid who works for the palace in the respectable island after things are being stolen from the castle and, as a result, is forced to work at the castle of the second downtown island. With this new job, she must get used to a new family to work for and a new way of life, however things soon show they are not as they first seemed...
About two weeks into the job Mrs McArthur is having a rorrid time, mocked and tormented by civilians of the island. She recives a call from her friend and fellow worker at the repsectable palace who says things are still being stolen. She discovers that it is workers in the second palace stealing things. Mrs McArthur reports back to the first castle and as a result tension and hatred grows between the two groups...
One morning violet (the downtown king’s daughter) runs downstairs and protests that the one of the king’s workers entered her bedroom that night and threatened to kill her. Although Mrs McArthur is sure she is lying, she is ordered by the downtown king to kill the head general of the resectable island’s army, leaving them defenceless which would allow the downtown island to invade. She pretends to do so, visiting the respectable castle, however whilst the island works to protect the general, one of the downtown king’s servents sneaks into the castle and murders the respectable king’s father.
The next week, after the king has mourned his father, he visits the downtown castle and protests that the violence must stop. He challenges the downtown king to a competition, each kings half of the crown will be hidden in eachothers castle. The first crown to be retrived and brought back to its castle of origin will rule over both islands, and the other king must leave.
The next morning the compeition begins. The kings from both islands have hidden the crown half and, as the gun to signal the beginning of the race is shot, each townsperson from each island runs to find their half. The respectable townspeople cannot find their half until Mrs McArthur finds the half crown hidden amongst the trees of the courtyard, rather than being in the castle. Has the downtown king’s cheating won the race and is there still time for Mrs McArthur and the respectable island?
Hope its okay, sorry I havent got names and stuff yet. Comments would be so helpful. Thanks!
