It's so sad that I can't trust anyone.

I feel your pain, however If you dont want a bank account you dont really have to get one. I'd just get another lock box. Something with a combination lock. Keys can be stolen... so.

Also thieves dont typically ask to borrow money. Not to say that they wouldn't steal simply because they asked for it, but why ask if you're just going to steal? I'd look to see who has just bought some nifty new thing. Buy a new lock box.

This. I work an under the table job and pull in anywhere from $200-$500 a week from it depending on business. This is why I prefer to keep my money at home.

The IRS is not going to go after a waitress unless you're banking 100k+ a year or something. Seriously. Drug dealers use banks (up to a certain point). You'll be OK. Plus, you don't have to carry cash around.

Consider this: Can you afford a fire proof lock box that's sturdy enough to not be stolen and broken into off-site? If not, then it's not really worth it to put your entire savings into one. Banks exist for security. Use them.

Actually, yes, I probably could afford a nice lockbox. It just always slips my mind when I'm out shopping, and I guess I never worried about it because I was dumb enough to just assume I could trust people in my house.

I'm just going to open a bank account.

Get a box that you can mount. Borrow a friend's hammer drill and get some concrete anchors. Have a handy guy give you a hand securing the box to your floor so that no one can just take the whole thing and break it open somewhere else.

I'm a little late to the thread, but I'm sorry to hear that happened. My pregnant friend had $300 stolen out of her purse in high school. Don't ask me why it was there, but losing it has to be burdening.

When I was a kid, I used to stole small amount of money and some things everywhere I could. I can tell You, that nothing secures Your property more than keeping it in a well-secured place. Usually, money are left in some accessible non-secured place and actually provoking a potential thief to make a steal so they cannot resist. After stealing something like 1500$ from my friend and a long and sad story after, I changed my mind. Now I'm not going to pick up even a 10 million dollars led alone in a desert. Regarding to what happened with Bathory, it seems that the thief has been provoked to steal money. I'd recommend You to hide Your money more accurate and pay attention to who You let in Your house.
