The sickness, and not the good or sugary kind. I have a cold. Or something. And I know, I'm being a complete baby about it, but damn this one sucks.
First day, I start feeling pretty sick. Dizzy, headache, sore throat, stuffy sinuses... I try to call in to work early so they know I'm not feeling well. I have really bad timing, however, as they were getting ready for Inventory the next day, so there wasn't much that could be done. I get told that I need to come in, but that someone will be in to relieve me a couple of hours after I start. I am okay with this. Only 2 hours of "Hi, how are you, oh I'm fine, here's your total, can you sign this, goodbye," not a problem. That is, until my head starts to feel like it's going to explode. My ears began to pop every time I moved my mouth, it was pretty unbearable. On top of that, the girl (We'll call her J.) says she will be a little bit late, as she has to get her car from somewhere.
I'm genuinely okay with this. What's another half hour, I ask myself, no biggie. My manager B says I should take an antihistamine/allergy pill/whatever for my head, and that it'd probably make me feel better. So I did. Slight mistake on both of our parts. I took two of the pills from the jar, and went on with work. Meanwhile the DM is trotting around the store in her outrageously eye burning orange shirt.
My head felt better! Yay! But then I started to feel it. My head got all "whooshey," I got dizzy, and felt slightly sick to my stomach. Greaaaat! Luckily I didn't get sick enough to puke or anything, but man... I was not feeling good. J calls again and says that she's really sorry but she'll be there, soon, she promises, and that she's on her way. I'm too out of it to give any real response other than mumbled "yeahs" and "okays."
Eventually J shows up, a little less than an hour before my shift would have been over to begin with, which annoyed me. She profusely apologized, but I know they were hollow apologies, no one ever means what they say where I work :/
Went home, got on the computer for 20 mins, then went to bed. Passed out for 14 hours, woke up, slept some more, got on the computer again, then passed out again. All the time having a lovely fever and those fun little "zomg I'm hot! Now I'm freezing my ass off!" things, which caused me to have WEIRD dreams about people having to put a giant round machine together, which kind of reminded me of that movie First Contact (I think...), except people were to be put in a long device that would be lowered into the center of the machine and somehow it would better humanity as a whole. Yeah, it was strange. And magical forcefields were involved somehow.
Anyway, I'm still recovering, really sore still and suffering from that same damn headache that feels like my brain's bouncing off my skull every time I move my head, popping ears and a sore throat with weird mucus in the back of my throat but high enough to make me sound stupid when I try to say words with the letter "N" in them.
TL;DR? I hate being sick, and I hate it when coworkers have no compassion for THEIR coworkers who come in for them all the time; I bet it was J's shift I'm taking on Friday anyway! PFEH!
Anyone else been getting hit with the sickness lately?
