Yesterday I made a huge corned beef. I put it in the oven in a
7-quart enameled Lodge Dutch oven. This pot is fairly new to me -- a
present from my daughter. I am continually amazed at how quickly this
larger pot with the added mass cooks big hunks of meat. Very
efficient.
After I popped the corned beef in the oven, I did some minor grocery
shopping. Not only did I need carrots for dinner, but Baxter, our
German Shorthaired Pointer, needed carrots for his dinner. He gets a
sliced, raw carrot in his dinner every night.

Carrots are dreadful things in the supermarket this week. Skinny,
twisted and pale. Don't know why that should be. . .

I also got 4 apple fritters from their bakery. I like the fritters at
this bakery as they actually put apples in them ;o} The bakery lady
was just putting a fresh tray of them in the case. They were huge
with gems of apples poking out everywhere. I love good apple
fritters.

I also got 4 wire hanging baskets (the empty ones). I will have my
deck garden this year. I couldn't last year as I was too ill. But
this year, just wait!

I noticed that the fresh fish in the fish monger area looked terrific
and that the price was back down to where I didn't feel faint looking
at the prices. They had really beautiful trout (produced right here
in Idaho (Hagermann) by the largest purveyor of trout in the nation.
For about $4/pound. I love trout done in the smoker. Not smoked
cooked, but cooked with heat and smoke present. They are so juicy and
flavorful that way.

All in all, I had a very nice and normal day. I got to do some
cooking, shopping and gardening. What could be better?

After I got home, I raked leaves off of my front yard rock garden and
found all kinds of new growth popping up. I will have wonderful
flowers this year. Last year, a neighbor came over and weeded for me
while I was in the hospital. What a treat to come home to that.

the tumour. He doctor told her that he is surprised that she is still alive.

Seems this time I'm going to have a whole bunch of people (friends &
family) on my back, so it's probably a safe bet to say I won't be missing
any from now on...... as much as I don't really want to go :-)






I've just found out I have friends who *really* give a damn about me (it
was a given that my SO would anyway...), and the last straw was seeing a
friend cry when we were talking about my treatment/op (she's also a
foodie, and had thrown a dinner party designed specifically for me....
which everyone enjoyed as well!!)... that's when I realised I'd better get
my head outta my butt and stop being so selfish.






And that's it in a nutshell....... another battle, another war to fight
and not give up.
