Its About Time I Did This.

Agreed. Especially when the OP writes in his post that he knows people have bigger problems than himself and then some idiot has to chime in with "... you should grow up, people have bigger problems than you."

Oh the ironing.

I think you're all whiner babies. It sucks that grandma doesn't like the guy for who he is, granted, she's old, and probably never will. Ok, well get over it, next! And the rest of you, stop whining about it? Please? With sugar and cherries on top?

I hope purging that helped the OP.

And all I'm going to say about respecting old folks is this... if someone is belittling you and saying you are worthless regardless of their age or position in your family, that's never an acceptable behavior. I don't care how old they are or who they are, age doesn't give anyone the right to tell someone they are a piece of shit. She is a grandmother for christ's sake.

No, I've dealt with a few people that were disrespectful to others long before anyone was disrespectful to them. Those people deserve no respect.

I was super close to punching the first person I've ever hit out of anger in my life. My best friends mother was telling me what a worthless bastard daughter she gave birth to and how she wishes her daughter would have died. Grant you, the lady was mad and upset. However, she did that bit even when she wasn't mad or upset because she loathes her daughter and uses her every chance she gets.

Would I tell her kids or grand kids to respect that bitch? Hell no. I don't even expect my daughter to respect her.

I've been told repeatedly that respect is earned. I'm leaning toward believing that more and more. I was raised to respect my elders regardless. There are exceptions.

Truth, seriously. I taught my kid to understand the authority someone has over them first, then if they're worth it, they can earn your respect.

I don't know about your grandmother, but I know mine is old enough to have caught the tail end of the Great Depression and everything that followed.

They dealt with some incredible shit that I can't even fathom.

Cut her some slack. There's more to life than what's directly in front of your nose. You'll see it in a few years.
