Itching & Bruising

Lately I notice that my skin itches a lot more than usual. The problem mainly occurs on my legs, but it's normal for it to happen anywhere (just the most on my legs). My skin is not dry and I regularly use body lotion. I thought maybe it was an allergic reaction/irritation from scented products, so I switched to unscented laundry detergent and unscented Curel lotion, but months later, it still happens just as bad. Since I didn't notice an improvement, I switched back to my scented body lotion since I liked it better. I still use unscented detergent on my clothing. I wear simple clothes made out of cotton and other simple fabrics that shouldn't be bothering me.

Perhaps this can be from the water? The city I live in does have harder water with a lot of minerals. Other than this, I'm not sure what else it may be. There aren't a lot of bugs out at this time of year and I don't have any bites or marks. I do get some allergies, so that's another possibly that something outside is bothering me that gets in the air all around me.

Lately I wake up with very large bruises on my legs from my scratching very hard at night. It's hard for me to relieve the itching. I get a mild rash from scratching too much, as well as the brusing. I have solar nails over my real nails, which make them smoother and less scratchy, so I don't break my skin that often from scratching. I bruise easily now, but I am not anemic and my recent blood test came out normal. I'm a very healthy person, get regular exercise, and eat a healthy diet.

Anyone have any ideas of what I should look into to help with this? It's annoying because I often get red and blotchy in itchy areas.

ALOE VERA GEL - IT WORKED FOR ME!!!
I have suffered from itchy skin for over 5 years. There was no reason or rash & my itchiness seemed to be worse at night when my skin became hot. The itchiness would one minute be confined to my legs, then my back, then my arms - all over my body - the only way to control is was to take allergy tablets each night which I have been literally living on for the past 5 years,
I became really distressed over this as just recently it was getting worse - my skin was getting really damaged with all the scratching, I used to scratch so hard I would bruise my skin.
I went to my doctors & he gave me the statutory creams etc & suggested steroid creams which I did not want. I was going back to him after I got back from my holiday. I was really self conscious as my skin looked so awful but I found something that really worked for me
I went to a spice plantation in India where I bought a small pot of aloe vera gel - I have now been back for 3 weeks & since using it I have only taken the allergy tablets twice. When I feel a little itchy I put the gel on & it is soothes it
I researched it on the internet a little more & have found that it should be IASC certified (as some aloe products may contain more water). I bought some over the internet but it is readily available in Holland & Barratt

It could simply be due to the weather. My skin is so dry during the winter - even though I use lotion on it every day. Having the heat on just dries it out a lot.

The aloe vera gel may help with your dry skin as well
I have always moisturised my skin & do not have dry skin. I thought my condition was allergy related & have had blood tests, allergy tests, got prescription creams etc, although I have not really pushed for a solution until lately - it was just annoying before & confined to my legs but still has been going on for over 5 years. If I did not take my allergy tablets the itching would wake me up in the middle of the night
Hope whatever you use works for you!!

i have recently been itching and coming out with big bruises on the top of my legs and small bruising where i have been itching too hard, i have been to the doctors had full blood counts and it shows my bloods are normal. i got some tablets to stop the itching but these have not worked, its really annoying me now and i just dont know what to do  my itching is worse when it is too hot and on the night i dont know what has caused this i was wondering if you could help please :) xx

You should really try the aloe vera gel (IASC certified) to stop the itching. My symtoms seem very similar to yours - itching for no reason at all, blood tests etc all seemed normal & I had been living on allergy tablets for over 5 years
Also I have stopped using creams to moisturise - I now use certified organic jojoba oil. I always thought using oils would make my skin greasy but it is a really light oil & has really "repaired" my skin
One other change I made recently was to change my washing powder to Fairy non bio
Hope you find a solution

Thank you all for your replies! Luckily, since the time of my original post, my itching has greatly improved. I really haven't even changed much, so it was probably worsened by allergies. Another odd thing I notice is that since I have my natural nails (vs. fake nails), I can better just normally scratch an itch. When I have the fake nails, they are very smoothed down and I can't scratch itches as well. I think when I have them, I tend to try to scratch harder because I can't quite get the itch to go away. Just something I noticed! Luckily I don't get the fake nails too often because they get annoying.. just for special occasions and what not.

I have been using a simple body lotion with shea butter in it. I really like the scent and it makes my skin feel very soft and moisturized without feeling greasy. I do have aloe vera as well, so if the itching starts up again, I will definitely use it! Thanks again for all of your help!

thank you for your reply, i am going to try that gel that you suggested, i have recently been given some tablets called Hydroxyzine because i have now come out in dry patches all over my skin my doctor said i have had a allergic reaction to something but he isnt doing any tests to find out what. i have been really stressed over it all because i am losing sleep and its getting in the way of my every day life  very annoying but hopefully the gel will work and the tablets. xx
