It was fun while it lasted (A Nokia E62 story)

So, here I was, ready for a contract renewal. I go to the Cingular store and consider an 8125. Neat phone, but I'd heard of some issues with it. So I waited. Then I saw one.

the E62.

I got to try it out and, well, I was in love. It was nice and speedy on the net, had a solid keyboard and I didn't find the slowness on bringing up text messages and such to be much of an issue.

So I bought it.

Well, I was supposed to get unlimited net and 1000 texts a month for 40 bucks. Evidently, that isn't the case with a voice and data plan, it was supposed to be 50. No amount of complaining would get them to fix it (and I was as nice as possible about it).

So now, the E62 has sadly gone back to the store and I've switched back to the D307. I got my money back and my contract is renewable again.

This only cost me a phone I really enjoyed. Well, that and the $150 to renew my girlfriend's plan and get her a new phone, a Samsung D807 (her mom's died right about when I went to get a new one so her mom got her old phone and it was a mess. So my GF got a new phone out of this deal.)

I'll upgrade soon, though. Thinking about a 3125 -- I like that the net is only 20 bucks a month on that one.

if you didnt listen to the Reps at the store when you bought the E62, you could of just left the store with the phone and called CS and added "Media Max 1000"

This plan, even though not a PDA connect plan still works with the E62. Most people use the Media Net Max plans instead of the PDA connect ones. I personally have been using it for a couple weeks with no problem on my E62.

This plan includes -- unlimited data, 1000 text messages....all for 29.99 a month.

Normally the CS wont ask what phone you've got, if they do just say you've got a Razr or Slvr or something of that sort, that isnt a pda phone. They will never know, they really cant check.

Either way the 3125 looks nice, but i dont like that it doesnt have a keyboard of some sort (either suretype or qwerty)

Haha, another person who doesnt get their way and blames it on the phone. I have an e62 and use the media max plan with no issues what so ever. I walked into a cingular store with my girlfriends RAZR and told them to downgrade me (I was on the $40 plan with my 8125). They asked me why I was downgrading and I said I went back to the RAZR. They asked me why I would do that and I told them I was waiting for the new phones to come out. They did it and never even asked to see the RAZR.

Actually i believe they do have a way of checking. When i was adding a data plan to my 3125 they asked for my house number, called it and told me to enter like "# and some numbers" into my phone and a number popped up which i read to her. She then told me the phone i had (before i had mentioned it).

Well, yes they can tell from their logs what phone you have been using. It's buried somewhere in their computers.

But, let's face it, they found it easier to make you check.

Exactly. Well if you pay 29.99 for Media Max 1000 you save 10.00 a month, so after 11 you have already saved more then the rebate would of saved you.....

Actually, I'm not blaming the phone. I didn't take it back because it was the phone's fault -- I took it back because I didn't want to pay 50 bucks a month instead of the 40 bucks a month I was supposed to be paying.

Never once "blamed the phone". Hell, I still love the phone. If I could get it within the rules and have a 29.99 a month plan, I'd be all over it.

It is the reps fault for being misinformed/lying to me to get me to buy the phone. I just couldn't justify keeping the phone at that cost (Yes, I realize it is only 10 bucks when I was already paying 100 bucks total.) But no, this isn't a "waa waa I didn't get my way so screw you" type deal. It isn't a "this phone sucks because I had to pay 10 bucks more" type deal. I feel I was lied to and that's something I just don't appreciate.

I also realize I could have probably used some cheapie net plan, but I'd rather not do that -- with my luck, I'd get caught and be tagged with some ridiculously high bill for my usage.

True. I neglected to add I don't text much so I rather pay 10 bucks a month less and then pay a nickle or a dime (which is it?) on the rare occasion I decide to text someone.

BTW, I also happen to have the old grandfathered Media Works plan on my ETen M600+ for Unlimited data and tons of texting for $19.99/mo. I just never text with that phone either!

Thats what I use, $19.99 (Unlimited w/ 200 texts), so I am saving OVER $20 a month. When I had the unlimited date, I ALSO had to get 200 text messages for another $4 and got ot drop that with the MediaMax200. So now I am saving $25 a month and cover that $100 rebate in four months and save another $200 the rest of the year.

It's not just the reps fault. I understand he could have told you about the Media Max 1000, but with out the unlimited PDA connect you won't recieve the rebate, and let's face it guys, some ppl are dead set on getting their money back, not only do I work at a Cingular and see this, I also work at Best Buy as a Customer Service Rep and that's just the way it works. Now Moose if you told the rep that you didn't want to get the Unl. PDA Connect plan he could have just sold you the phone and wouldn't ha ve given you the rebate form.... Either way if I was you I would get that phone of your dreams again, and go with what these guys are saying, you just wouldn't recieve the rebate.
