You're definitely not alone. And you can do this.
Like someone close to me said, "No one has ever died from a panic attack and neither will you."
Because during my panic attacks, that's what it felt like -- like I wouldn't live to see the next hour. My heart raced, I couldn't breathe, I couldn't have even gotten up out of my chair to walk across the room if I wanted to. I spent an entire day in the emergency room because I couldn't breathe. No breath at all, I couldn't even bend over to pick up my dog's food dish to feed her. So I had my bf take me to the ER. They put me on oxygen, they gave me albuterol inhalers, steam, etc, and nothing worked. They even took 2 sets of x-rays of my lungs. The doc eventually came in and said, "There's nothing wrong with your lungs, they're perfectly clear."
So I said, "Okay, then why can't I breathe?"
Turns out I was panicking over the fact that I couldn't get enough air and that only made it worse. So a wonderful angel of a doctor eventually came in to where I was laying and said, "Your lungs are clear, your bloodwork is perfect, I want to try something, with your permission."
That's when she told me she was going to give me a 'shot' of the drug Ativan through my IV. I spent a whole day not able to breathe and within 5 minutes of giving me the Ativan, I was perfectly fine.
That's when I was diagnosed with GAD. I followed up with my doc and got the script for Celexa (and Ativan for the "uh-oh" moments) and within 3 weeks I felt like a human again, after enduring a few months of panic attacks and not knowing what the heck was wrong with me.
So it will happen, it will even out for you. And, again, after a few weeks, if you're not feeling any better, talk to your doc. They can either up your Celexa dose or try a different medication. What meRAB work for some may not work for others.
