It finally clicked with me

I had "Everything Wrong Is Imaginary" by Lilys for a couple months and I had only given it 2 listens through. Then for some reason they became my favorite band.

I was and still am more of a fan of the way Radiohead used to be. But the highlights of that live set I mentioned were the Kid A tracks. I remeraber that simply put I was in awe watching those tracks and Jonny Greenwood throughout. Never thought I would say that.

I had Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited for ages and didnt think much of him, but then I got Blonde on Blonde and Bringing It All Back Home now i'm in love with him.

Anything that's instantly 'catchy' always seems to take time for me to appreciate.
But when it comes to metal or noisy stuff, I could differentiate between the good and bad immidiately! Damn, bad listening habits I get into sometimes :(.

I think Amnesiac, HTTT and In Rainbows are Radiohead's best albums, so i suppose you could say i prefer their latter work. I could imagine live that album would be amazing though.

Anyway we must not mention Radiohead again in this thread or we'll be lynched.

Big Star was like that for me. When I first listened to them about 15 years ago, I thought their songs were pleasant enough but nothing special. Then I listened to them again around 2000 and their brilliance just completely snapped into focus. The melodies, the hooks, the earnest, yelping vocals...perfect guitar pop music.

your not an idiot. i personally think the smiths are way overratted. i dont discredit them for their influence and what they did for the genre, but seriously its some of the least interesting music ive ever listened to.

I actually still struggle to get into Tender Prey. I find it very hit-or-miss but since it seems to be such a fan favorite I keep thinking someday it will click with me.

I can really relate to this one. I hated Morrissey from when I first heard him in the late 80s all the way until about 2005 when for no reason I got "Panic" stuck in my head so badly that I had to run out and buy The Smiths Singles. Before I knew what was happening I suddenly really liked The Smiths.

I wouldn't even give Modest Mouse a chance for several years because I disliked their name and the musical inclinations of a lot of their fans so much. Then they started getting really popular and I started hearing really good songs by them. Before I knew it, I owned three of their albums.

Took me a while to get into Tago Mago (I liked Ege Bamyasi a lot beforehand), but I realize now how fantastic it is. I still don't really like Peking O, but everything else on the album is brilliant.

A strange one for me was Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. I got into Floyd when I was about 18 and started on Meddle instead of the usual RABOTM etc When I then heard piper I was like WTF is this? After listening to the lushness of Gilmour era Floyd I just could'nt dig it. About 8 years ago I randomly put it on and just kept playing it. Now it's 2nd only to the mighty 'Animals' for my favourite Floyd album. It's a truly astonishing album and once you 'get it' you are hooked!

there are three albums that come to mind.
Jets to brazil "Orange Rhyming Dictionary"

Wilco "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot"

Hot Water Music "A Flight and a Crash"

at first they didnt click but i knew it was great music. these albums just get better and better

Yeah, I'm starting to agree. I have only listened to a few metal albums, all relatively recently, so I was kind of thrown off by it at first.
