isync has disabled Palm address and datebook synching

My Palm T 3 died a month ago, and I just got a T3 replacement from the store where it was originally bought. In the intervening period I used isync to sync my new nokia 6600 phone with my Ibook. Now that I have the Palm again I'm back using hotsynch, but I've lost the option of synching the datebook and address programs on the Ibook with my T3. How can I restore these options to the Palm desktop SW? (They're missing from the hotsynch conduit options, too.)````

as far as I remember, isync removes the datebook and address book conduits when its activatd. You probably just need to reinstall the conduits and set them to 'syncronize'....

iSync probably just moved the offending conduits from "Conduits" to "Disabled Conduits" folder in /Hard Drive/Library/Application Support/Palm Hotsync/

To begin re-using Palm Desktop, just move the "Date Book" and "Address" conduits from "Disabled Conduits" to "Conduits" and also move "Apple" in the other direction from "Conduits" to "Disabled Conduits".

Hope that helps.

Sorry it's taken so long to respond, but I just did what you suggested and 1) there is nothing at all in the folder "conduits", and no folder by the name of disabled conduits. What next?

Ok, for a lark I did a search, and the folder and conduits came up: i'd looked under my user name, rather than the hard drive. Ok, it's done; I'll let you know what happens tomorrow. One last question (I hope): I see memos in disabled, and memo in the "enabled" folder. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

If you have the Palm Desktop installation CD, you should re-install the software and let Palm Desktop place the conduits in their proper places. I'll give you instructions based on my memories of how this works. It's been a while since I had to do all this. If you don't have the CD, look on the PalmOne website for Mac OS X Palm Desktop software and download it from there.

I'd uninstall the current Palm Desktop first, however, to remove any potential beasties. Insert the CD into your computer, go through the installation motions until you get to the part where it asks you what kind od installation you want. The choices should be "Easy Install", "Custom Install" and "Uninstall." Choose the latter. It may ask you where the Palm software is, if so point it to the "Palm" folder in the "Applications" folder. Hit OK.

When that's done, I'd restart the computer, and when it's done re-booting run the Palm Install CD again, go through the installation motions and this time choose "Easy Install." It might ask you where you want to install the "Palm" software, and if it does just point it to the "Applications" folder.

When that's completed, I'd restart the computer again (I like having things settle into order with a clean restart) and then I'd connect the T|3 and perform a HotSync. It might ask if you want to create a user based on your current T|3 user profile, and if so say "Yes."

The HotSync process should go smoothly, if not long-ly. (?) The first HotSync will take a long time because it's writing all of the data from your T|3 to the Palm Desktop for the first time. Subsequent HotSyncs should be quicker.

You might have to re-install any third party conduits if you had them previously (ie, Vindigo, AvantGo,... although I doubt you had AG since they cancelled their OS X support...) If so, that should be easy.

Hopefully the process is relatively painless and that you can get all of your data back to normal. Let us know how it works for you.

I see that you've edited your post in the time I typed my last post. I'm glad you're back on track. (I should've taken typing classes.)

There are different "Memo" softwares. It's confusing, but the previous incarnation of OS 5 (previous to 5.4 or whatever) had app's called "Address" and "Date Book" and "To Do" and "Memo" (or whatever), but in Palm OS 5.4 (or whatever the T|3 came with) they've changed the app's to "Contacts" and "Calendar" and "Tasks" and "Memos" (or whatever) and when you nstall the more current version of the OS it takes the older versions and dumps them into the "Disabled Conduits" folder.

If all of your data is on both the T|3 and the Mac, then I wouldn't overly worry about the confusion. If your "Memo" data isn't there, try switching the conduits between the folders (the one to the "Disabled" folder and the other to the "Conduits" folder. Then see if after a HotSync you get your data back.

OK, I have partial success: the T3 is syncing contacts and calendar again. However,no luck on memos and tasks. I'm considering the re-install, but I have one major concern: preserving the data in the current user file. Is there a protocol for doing that. (I have to since the Task and memos data's only on the computer)
