Issue with Wii - Need help!

We bought it a week ago, and only played it that day (after running the updates). After trying to play it again a week later (didn't have time to play during the week), we couldn't get anything to display on the screen. The power light turns green, and it'll accept/eject discs just fine, but it won't synch with controllers, and the TV is not getting any signal from it (stays black).

My only guess is that while it was inactive for the week, it downloaded a system update which didn't work right or something, since we had WiiConnect24 enabled.

Do you guys have any ideas or know of any good troubleshooting websites/forums we can check? The Nintendo support page is a joke.

I'm gonna try a new set (from another Wii), but why would the possible bad cable prevent synching? Also, it's not that the cables are loose or anything, we've tried completely unhooking the cables and rehooking the Wii to another TV setup

Synching might just take a couple tries, I didn't have to sync mine but just push both sync buttons and aim it at the unit, should sync in a minute.
