Issue with Twitching nerves

I was here a long time ago but I've since changed emails and had to register with a new user name. I remember there was a name for the condition I have, but I can't remember what it was. I know everyone has problems with their eyelids twitching sometimes. I have problems with my eyelids and almost any other part of my body doing it at different times.

Someone told me this condition could be the start of Parkinson's Disease, or it may never get any worse than it is now. I've had this going on since I was about 12 years old. I'm 36 now. It doesn't hurt, but it can almost drive you crazy sometimes.

The other night, my bottom lip was twitching. At the same time, both sides of my nose and my right eyelid were twitching and it went on for a few hours. My thumb and finger on my left hand started during all of this too. That lasted most of the night. Tonight, I felt my right foot doing something. I lifted my foot up on the bed to see my toes twitching. Big toe to the left, toe next to it to the right, the next toe twitching like it was being pulled backward. Like I said, no pain, but very annoying. This was almost 6 hours ago, and it hasn't stopped. I was at the movies the other night and the back side of my left calf, just below the knee, started twitching and lasted until the next morning.

I know other people here have the same problem, but I just can't remember the name. Has anyone seen a doctor about it? Is there danger of it progressing into Parkinson's or something else. I thought about asking my doctor if there is medication to control this. It's been this way for several years, but recently it seems that more places at once are doing it. Plus, I'm a little more concerned after what I heard. Any help would be appreciated.

The condition your thinking of could be benign fasciculation syndrome. I don't think it has anything to do with Parkinsons. There is a web site dedicated to it, you may get some help there. All the best.

Hi DanBama73,

I had/have the same problem. I did have twitching here and there on occasion when I was stressed before. Nothing to worry about really. Those are just nerves/stress and everyone has that once in a while. Do your complaints flare up when you've been under a tremendous ammount of pressure? This might very well be the cause and then it would be benign and if you just chill and take some magnesium it will probably go away again. Sure it can always be something else but if you really are worried you should consult a doctor about it.
As for me. I got bitten by a tick last year may and I developed really heavy twitches all over my body in october. Now officially I was cured of the Lyme because I started oral antibiotics in the 5th week after being bitten, but I'm not so sure. Because after quitting the antibiotics my old symptoms returned and then went away again on their own. But then much later on I got these bad twitches and creaking joints. Now I do still have both but it's not as debilitating anymore so I just live with it. I could let my spinal fluid be tested for Lyme antibodies, (twitching would indicate a central nervous system issue)but since this test has a low detection rate I don't know if I want to. Muscle twitches and other Lyme neurological symptoms are likely produced by the toxins the bacteria give off. So althought it's not likely just the quick question: have you ever been bitten by a tick? Maybe when you were younger? You can always get a bloodtest to see if you have antibodies. Make sure you know a place where they offer a reliable test. Like a lab that specializes in testing for Lyme.(you probably have to pay for it yourself) This way you can be more sure that if it's negative it's really negative.

Good luck

Greetings Chasz
