wait for Lebanon to comply with UN resolutions that they had ignored for 6 years at that point?

Smart bombs are good, but they haven't quite figured out how to ask if someone is a terrorist before exploding.
 
WAY overboard would be carpet bombing Beirut and chopping down that famous cedar they love so much, so Ehud Olmert can have a new desk.

The UN passed a resolution asking Israel to leave Lebanon and for the Lebanese to secure their own border and deal with Hezbollah.

Israel complied and left.
Lebanon...well...hasn't.

and its kind of hard to attack a military target, when the terrorists are hiding said target in a civilian population.
 
This whole situation reminds me of that scene in Speed. Hezbollah has Lebanon hostage and Keanu (Israel) says "shoot the hostage". EDIT - Ofcourse to get to Hezbollah, and not to just kill civies.
 
Ahhh so back to pacifism now! Yes lets turn the other cheek while our soldiers are killed and kidnapped and people rain rockets down on our cities. Do you know when the last time the Jews turned a blind eye to violence committed against them? The holocaust.
 
UWhile Article 28 of the Fourth Geneva Convention states: "The presence of a protected person may not be used to render certain points or areas immune from military operations," Article 48 of Protocol I states that "the presence within the civilian population of individuals who do not come within the definition of civilians does not deprive the population of its civilian character." This means the presence of military targets, including arms caches, in civilian areas of Beirut and in villages in the South of Lebanon, does not render those areas acceptable military targets. This also indicates Hizbullah's attacks on civilian targets are illegal under international law. Warring parties are also prohibited under the First Protocol from using civilians to shield their military installations, as Israel has accused Hizbullah of doing.
 
yes what would I know what's going on... I mean I only live here? and have family and friends in the IDF and living in northern Israel...

but Hay you watch Al Jazeera or CNN... you you're defiantly more informed then I am
