Israel shoots down drone believed head to Tel Aviv

I always wanted to build a uav for the fun of it

computer, gps receiver, radio controlled airplane servos.. wouldn't be too hard

One thing about 'terrorists' (I use the term loosely because although I believe it applies here, it doesn't really apply to all the places we use it) is that they are incredibly efficient with their resources compared to organizations like Israel or the US military. We spend like $80k on a hellfire missile (this is again an estimate, I don't really remember the exact cost but it's not cheap) to blow up their shitty $30k russian surplus tank (again, an estimate that is made to illustrate how inefficient our war effort is).

Now I'm not saying we shouldn't, necessarily. The fact that we save our boys' lives by doing this is respectable to me, and justifies it at least to some degree. But in terms of pure efficiency, we lose.

It's always cheaper to attack than defend. Think the Soviets in the cold war - oh, you're going to build a super expensive system to destroy our incoming ICBMs? Ok, we'll just launch ICBMs that seperate into more warheads than you can destroy. Total cost to us? Several million dollars. Total cost to you to defend against this new threat? Billions.

Oh, you designed a new point defense system for your carrier groups? We'll just make our anti ship missiles juke and jink through the air so that your computers can't predict where they are. Total cost to make your billion dollar point-defense system worthless? just a few million in the manufacturing process.

Me too It wouldn't be super difficult, but obviously it wouldn't be as awesome as a predator either. It wouldn't have the longevity, the ability to launch hellfires, the equivalent survellience ability, etc, but you could build lesser versions on the cheap for sure.

Oh yeah...and I'm sure the capitalized LEBANON in the thread title didn't catch any of the mods eyes but my Tel Aviv did.
