isn't this somewhat illegal?

agree, discrimination (to me) is the exact opposite. All those people that get handicapped parking spots, or lower costing phone bills bother me because this countries founding "policy" was everyone is equal. Tell me how it's equal for someone that is deaf to still want a cell phone, then want it cheaper? Either you can hear well enough with equipment, or you are using the hearing-impaired keyboard - either way you are making full use of your services you pay for.

Or how it's equal for this person, that just got out of their car and is walking perfectly fine, to get special treatment to park closer than the rest of the population (if they have a handicap that does not allow them full motion of their body they should not be driving - that in itself is a privilege, not a right), instead they should be the passenger and dropped off at the door, then park like everyone else, where ever you find a spot. My position on this came from an elderly lady (over 85) drove her car into my driver door. She had MS and a walker (that she couldn't use much, just to get to the back of the car for her electric buggy), ridiculous. She hit my car because she had an MS attack (On the road!). Most people that park in those spots don't have any limitations, but instead do it because a family member has the tag and they just take their car.

Even more bothersome to me is here the mall is rebuilding to be "green" (environment friendlier), so they have now created "green" parking spaces, and they have more than the handicapped spaces. These green spots are for the hybrid cars. Again, sorry but I don't see how that is "equal"

Yep, and all the "can I get away with this cheaper non-BlackBerry data plan??" questions.

I can't say I would agree with the thinking process of the last poster. Myself I dont have a have a problem with different plans for different needs. Nothing to get worked up over. Comparing it to special parking spots is not the same thing. Blackberry data plans are well suited for the deaf, and there really is no need for bundled minutes to be included. From a marketing stand point I think it would be wise for them to offer something like that, something like the sidekick data only, but for the Blackberry. But it is a free market, people can choose whatever plan suits them or go to another carrier. I buy family plan with minutes, the more you have the lower extra minutes get. For a plan with Blackberry Data only it would seem fair to have the Blackberry cost with a base fee of like $15.00 to $20.00 for the base charge. The cell phone company would make their money, and it would not affect users of higher use plans. Basically buy what you need. No not like the one shoe idea or even eating half a meal. A plan created for users who will not be using voice calls, it seems reasonable to me.

As to special parking, get over it. Someone who has special needs to live a normal life deserves a break. Driviing and walking are not the same. Just because a person has limitations on walking it does not mean they are a bad driver. Yes I have seen some people who should give up driving (my grandfather was one), but they are not always in need of special parking. Show some compassion for those trying to still get out and function. Closer parking for them never hurt those who can walk without problem. Not everyone can be driven around and dropped off at the door.

As to green parking. I say plug in at home or have a pay to plug spot, if the parking lots crowded the space is fairgame. But again that's not the same as special needs needs parking.

All a corporation is, is a legal business entity with some safeguards built in for the incorporators to not get burned too badly if the corporation ultimately goes belly-up, is sued, etc. It's a legal business entity, nothing else. It has no feelings, moral imperatives, or ethical considerations, save for the ethics practices with due regard to incorporations.

Sarbanes-Oxley, anyone?

There are many corporations that are actually bettering society, primarily non-profits that attend to a particular segment of the population in which that corporation's founders perceived a need. (Corporation for Public Broadcasting in the United States, for example: Nature Shows, The Arts, Children's Education, the list goes on and on.)

The idea that corporations have any ethical or moral imperative to do anything in society is, of course, a matter of opinion. Corporations are, again, business entities, and, at their heart, they are made up of People! People who have to want to help others if they have the desire at all!

It is not the business entities who are responsible for changing the way we treat each other in our world. Corporate entities will always be available to assist with social change, but others are there, as well. Sole Proprietors--who probably make up more small businesses than any other, shouldering the full responsibility of doing business for boon or bane, their fortunes placed squarely upon their own shoulders--and the scores of Limited Partnerships that have cropped up all over the place, are also able to help foster positive social change.

Still, the ultimate responsibility resides within the Heart, Soul, Mind, and Body of that most populous of all individuals: The Thinking Human Being!

Area51;560315']To the OP,

There is a T-mo plan called FlexPay, you can pretty much build the plan you need ( EXCLUDING MINUTES IF YOU WANT ). Plus, there is no contract for this plan, check it out here:

P.S. I love T-mobile, lol.

no it doesn't hurt anyone and I didn't claim it does. My point to that is everyone is always crying about discrimination but they don't see that THAT is also discrimination to say someone should get what others cannot. No matter what the situation is. It's time this country stop making excuses for everyone and everything. So it brings it back to topic, no that is not discrimination with your carrier not offering you something "special". They should get the same treatment as the rest of society.

i dont want to chime in or whatever BUT curiouswill i really do think it is unfair for you...and other impaired persons. you never asked to be deaf..

ok one last thing

these comparisons are nothing like he is going through IMO. look at it as you want to buy the new BMW. should a dealership MAKE you pay for options you dont want and/or need? no....not at all

while you can custom order a car, most people have to get extra options on the car or then cannot buy it at that time (and must wait - for me to get one option added it was a week wait). But then carriers do the same, most offer plans that are data only with no minutes but will charge a per minute if you wish to use it (which works for those that are deaf and cannot talk on the phone, now they don't have to pay for minutes they will not use).

(also FlexPay - didn't see a link for it)

Sprint will allow you to have a data only plan for $30 with Unl. text and data, $15 more/month for PAM. Plus you can get the 8130 which has improved features. I would even give you a 30% discount, not for being deaf, just for switching from TMO.

I was chatting with a deaf girl who was being a sidekick junky a while back and apparently all her friends use it and they can communicate great with them. Instead of using the BB, look at a Sidekick.

I had a BB through TMO and was not required to get the voice plan, I'm deaf also. There was no hassel at all...AT&T did try to add the voice when I thought about going through them. But ultimately that was a store issue and when I called CS, they said the data only wouldnt be an issue.

So far as TMO trying to add the VP, just call CS ahead of time if you want to make sure your in the right and put them in their place till your leaving with what you wanted

The problem wasn't with the voice plan being added, but the fact that to get a data plan only the charges were more than to have the plan with a voice plan (ie $30 without vp and $20 with VP). The OP was wondering about the price diference and why T-Mo couldn't give him the cheaper price without the VP being required..

I'd say op should just get over it and take the bb data plan only option. I also think op kinda use the word "discrimination" too abusively.

I only see his point valid in the following conditions:

1) if t-mobile doesn't offer any data only plan AT ALL and force him to get voice and data plan together. Even at this extreme, op can have other options to choose alternative carriers.

2) he pays higher price for BB data plan than rest of us, if he only wants BB data plan only.

BTW, op can try to talk to tmobile CSR to bargain it. But it is up to tmobile to give you that discounts.
