Isn't sex really the "opiate of the masses", not religion?

Think about it - getting laid seems to be the #1 priority for young people, especially Americans, if movies and TV are to be believed. Teenagers are being given explicit instruction in how to have sex and they give the kids free condoms; but sex is not being pushed as a means of procreation, only recreation, which is why pro-abortion and pro-gay propaganda is really being pushed onto the public. The government and media WANT you to have sex without procreating, because it keeps you occupied and takes your focus off what's really happening. It's the opiate of the masses.

Nope. Sex is for procreation, a natural part of Nature. The fun part is icing on the cake. You seem to be one bitter and twisted dude. Chill out, relax and enjoy. All the sex in the world is sure as hell not going to make me inattentive. I also keep abreast of world affairs and know exactly who's screwing the country. (pardon the pun) Greedy politicians, corporate bankers and extreme fundamental Christians. For a good read try: "American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America" by Chris Hedges. Religion is definitely the opiate of the masses. BTW, I like woodland's answer, straight to the point.

It does also help to get another generation going.

If you read the full Karl Marx text on religion, you will find out that the comparison to sex is not very good.
Religion was more a consequence of society`s problems in his text.
If you get ride of religion, this does not make the underlying problems go away. As long as they are
present, religion will come back.

Sex on the other hand ( ... ), is not a consequence of problems. It is a very enjoyable thing in itself !

Being human mammal, of course sex would be #1 priority !! It`s build-in !!

Of course teenagers need to be told how to do it and to do it SAFELY !! You want everybody to get sexual disease ? You want everybody to get pregnant the first time they try ?
With or without sexual education, people still try the equipment. Much better to let them try it out AFTER they have some instructions on how to do it safely !!!

Abortion is a good tool. Condoms are a good tool too.
Being gay or not is not choice.
But teaching people about being gay and hetero is a choice. A much better choice than teaching hate and abusing gay people for what they love.
Being gay is not a choice. It is not "not natural". Gay people are people. They live.
You obviously dont know much gay people - or you are one and so frustrated by not daring to say it aloud, that you want to get everyone else as frustrated as yourself.

Please come out of the closet.

Take a look at the Middle East and tell me that sex is bad. Believe me, if those guys could have sex without being married and with the gender that they want, they probably wouldn't blow themselves up for their 72 virgins.
