Isn't it weird how a woman's voice is never really recognized in the music industry?

for example Michael Jackson's voice was so unique. Elvis Presley, Kurt Cobain. all left with a great impact on music.
and bands these days, with men as lead vocalist, they're recognized more. like they're voice has more of an impact than say paramore.

any ideas, er whatever?

I would say that women's voices in the 60's impacted music, so many powerful female singers. I don't know what happened, but I guess it's just the type of music that is popular these days.

not to mention women in the music industry usually are in the spotlight for 15 mins then replaced with someone younger.

I can see your point but there are plenty of very famous female vocalists:
Billie Holiday
Janis Joplin
Debbie Harry
Patti Smith
Joan Jett
Stevie Nicks
Diana Ross
Aretha Franklin

I think it's because there just happens to be less women in music than men. This isn't about talent or staying power, it's about who's populating this industry more. If both genders had the same amount of people in music, we'd have a longer list of 'Favorite Female Vocalists'.

(Also, I'm pretty sure the old phrase 'sex sells' has something to do with this too)

It for sure wasn't that way back in the 60's and 70's. It's not really even like that now. I mean, there's Allison Krauss, Linda Ronstadt, Natalie Cole, Debbie Harry, Sarah Vaughan and more. Honestly, I think that the girl from Paramore doesn't get recognized because her voice really isn't anything special.
