Isn't it pretty dumb how GM is keeping GMC (the exact same division as Chevy) but...

...discontinuing Saturn? GMC is the EXACT same division as Chevy. Both make trucks, both of their trucks look identical, but yet they are discontinuing the historical Pontiac division and the innovative Saturn marque? This just goes to show how bailout money is never used wisely.
 
Chevy makes cars...like the Corvette, and light duty trucks
GMC makes trucks (light and heavy duty)
GMC has millions of dollars in government contracts for industrial trucks, chevy does not, and GMC has over the road truck hauling division as well.

Also, GMC and Chevy have a full infrastructure of parts suppliers that Saturn does not have. Close either one and hundreds of thousands of jobs are lost, part of the union deal was to keep those jobs. Saturn is a self contained apparatus with fewer jobs lost.

Sort of makes sense when you use all the facts...

PS...Saturn was not making enough money to justify staying open, in fact the other divisions were subsidizing Saturn
 
Saturn was nonunion so that shouldn't come as a major surprise!

Union leaders hated the flexible work rules and eventually got rid of them.

Saturn was killed by its creators, GM and the UAW. The company starved Saturn for new products, and the union waged war against Saturn's labor reforms to keep them from spreading to other GM factories.
 
You have to look at it in a politcal sense, GM is being used by the government for it's purpose and will be used up and tossed on the trash heap. Don't look for economic sense here

If the government were interested in it's success it would have made cash for clunkers purely for domestic cars

Buy a FORD instead of a company given to the unions by the supreme one.
 
Actually GMC makes quite a few commercial truck that you will not find at Chevy.

Still it is government motors, CEO Obama has as much experience running a car company as he does running the country
