America is an event .....? In America more than most would have laughed at only 40 years ago. It is amazing! (Ok, i know ... there's the $$ and the who you know etc. etc.)
But this could only have happened to a liberal black man. A conservative never would have gotten close. I find that sad, - I find that scary and rather depressing. What do you think from your advantage ?

That an African American made it is a great thing, but as a President we still have to see how wise a choice it really was. Only time will tell.

i think if obama would have ruin on the republican ticket he would have still won. i never in my life voted one time for a republican , but i would have if obama was on the ticket

i think it was all about the vote. Put a face out there to get people fired up about voting either a woman to get the women's lib vote, or a minority to get the minority vote.
The Republican Party, while sitting not so pretty right now in having to deal with the last 2 decades of sweeping this major issue under the oval office carpet, tried to get someone in there they thought would be a good Pres. He voted for things he was passionate about, even suffered for it during campaigning, and eventually sold out when announcing a woman VP, that killed my vote for this year. i voted for myself during the elections.

No, actually it WAS seriously discussed 40 years ago, and MLK himself foresaw a black ("Negro" as he put it, a man of his time) President within that time frame. There are darned few conservative blacks (must be that blacks are voting in their own interests), and the ones that there are are given token positions in the Republican party to keep them from getting uppity. Now that is scary and depressing.

I agree with "liberal loons" guy. Time will tell if this was the right Black man to represent this remarkable event. The line is crossed now, and hopefully this will open the door for more conservative African American candidates to follow. I am one of the very few people who are willing to say that they will miss President Bush, despite his mistakes, but Obama will be my President now and I will respect him for the good of the country. I for one, am glad to be witness to it in our lifetime.
