Islamic group gives warning to South Park creators for 200th episode...

Oh what a surprise....Muslims are pissed. BTW, it's stuff like what that website is preaching that make me question whether or not we should be allowed our free speech anymore. Because people keep abusing the right 24-7 now.

I'm sort of afraid to reply out of paranoia that they might kill me.

EDIT: I'm sorry but what? WHAT? Suggesting we lose our free speech? That's ridiculous. America was made to be free. Taking that away makes it nothing. We need free speech.

Dude, you have any idea what a ridiculous and asinine statement you just said?

You need to take the worms with free speech too, not just the apples. We cannot censor free speech because of lunatics. If we did that we'd have our Fahrenheit 451-dystopia ready to go in no time (dystopic America would be like Bradbury's vision, not Orwell's).

Like GWOtaku said, screw censorship.

If they want me, come and get me.

............

*facepalm*

Yup. Obviously it only works to say "radical Islamists" if you're referring to Islamic terrorists and those who sympathize with them. What a great job I did proving my own point about carelessness! Totally intentional.*

*yeah it totally wasn't. Fixed the original.

For everyone here who says "screw censorship," know you have my full support. Censorship is just hypocritical, vile and really immature.

By the way, I myself am Buddhist, and chuckled when, at the Super Best Friends headquarters, Buddha snorts a joint. So they can show that, but not Muhammad? They can even show a bear costume which SUPPOSEDLY has Muhammad underneath and these guys threaten them. Unbe-ferking-lievable.

How true Cartoon Wars, Part II is today. Parker and Stone, frankly, are just brilliant men.

This is actually quite alarming, do you think Trey & Matt will need protection now? Would the Government get involved and actually send them a Secret Service type team/bodyguard to protect them?

It might sound silly but we've seen that these radical groups will go to great lengths to kill these people.

So here's a question: what if the same type of threat came from a non-Muslim?

Oh, wait...

At this point I'm wondering if the whole thing is just one big troll, and CC fell for it.

That goes back to the whole "credible threat" thing. These kind of threats happen all the time, but only a small number of them turn out to be worth pursuing. Even if this dude is serious, he hardly seems to wield any significant power.

I really hope Matt and Trey will be okay. I hope these people don't do anything stupid. And again, GET OVER IT YOU BIG BABIES!

I really do not see this as a big threat, others have threatened the creators of South Park, even with death. I do not even think they will show Muhammad tonight, so nothing is going to happen.

If these guys are for real, hopefully they go the peaceful route. Hopefully the episode does not get taken down by Comedy Central, that would be quite a bad thing to happen.

I think that is all I can say here, as the issue is touchy.

Remember, just threaten to use violence and you can get your way with anything. Of course that's how terrorism works though...

And while I understand why CC did this, sometimes a company has to realize that freedom isn't "free" and that sometimes you have to, to put it bluntly, crap or get off the pot.

Probably because there aren't as many crazy Christian and Buddhist groups that would murder people over portraying them. Different religions, different sets of rules it seems.

Exactly. Tolerance works both ways. It means that while you should be open minded regarding someone else's opinion and handling of your own religion, you should also be respectful and open minded about someone else's. IMHO there's a difference between voicing a strong opinion about religion and explicitly doing something a religious group finds outright blasphemous, such as showing Mohammad. Again, is it worth it to even try something like that? And failing that, is it worth it to get upset when a business like Comedy Central decides they'd rather censor something than take a risk?

Cry "You just let the terrorists win" all you want. But isn't it better to just let this little group get what they want than risk something stupid because the show wanted to do something blasphemous in the first place?
