Is using 1 set of pre-amp outputs with a 4 channel amp a bad idea?

I only have one set of pre-amp outputs on my head unit and I had a 4 channel amp installed. Every so often, it seems like my sound volume cuts down for a few seconds and the comes back in. Could this be from splitting the signal from the radio?
