Is University by correspondence difficult?

I am currently in year 10 and the university course I want to take after I get my HSC in 2 years is veterinary science. Where I live, the closest is Wagga Wagga by what I can find and I don't want to move away from home if I can help it. If anyone has done correspondence or is doing it now, is it harder than what it would be if you were at the actual uni? Is it hard to stay motivated or keep a schedule? Any info would be great
