Is UK riddled with racism?

'No chance' of British Obama

Trevor Phillips has said Barack Obama would never have become the British Prime Minister because of 'institutional racism' in the Labour Party.
Does this form of racism play out across the whole of UK society?
I will not delete any responses here ... it is a good cross section of the problem highlighted in this question. The problem is tied to people not knowing that they are racist in its purest and most ignorant form.
 
Sorry to say, but yes. It is not just colour, it is race and even accents.
I live in Wales and have suffered from Anglophobic remarks many times.
I have even seen people from one village dis the ones from the next!
Totally riddled, but not unsalvagable.
 
There is racism in all societies, it is just a matter of degree. It is worse in some areas or groups than others. As for whether we could ever have a black Prime Minister, of course we could; anything is possible. The UK is a hotch potch of mixed races and there are very few Anglo Saxon British any more. We could just as easy get an Oriental or Asian PM, they just need to get themselves elected as an MP and show their worth. I believe in the best man or woman for the job, not based on their colour or creed.
 
Yes but no more so than in the united states if I'm honest I believe there is more racism in the united states. The racism in the UK is done by petty people who have nothing better to do. The fact that the UK has become so multicultural means that the UK has become a melting pot in which tolerance and acceptance is mandantory so although some people may be racist it is not expressed as much due to an oppressive fear saying the slightest thing that may offend the minority while the majority seem to have a right to be offended.
 
labour is just one party in the UK - maybe there are some MP s who r racist but i live in the UK and there is not much racism
 
yes and there was no chance of a black president not that long ago,

you can always find someone who will believe there held back by there race but maybe there just not good enough and then to say its racism is cheap cause then you think less of them but it will also make some people think less of the community.
 
It's funny, I must have been brought up different or something, it woulsn't have made one bit of difference to me at all. I don't see colour or race, it's a persons values and beleifs and strength that makes them fit for president, not colour. The fact that people are thinking this in the 21st century makes me laugh that no one have evolved with a higher intelligence and overcome the stupid narrow minded remarks and tunnel vision of seeing in black and white!! as far as i'm concerned, and I live in the UK, people who think like this have a very sad and limited life and maybee need to think about getting a different topic to keep obsessing about, as it's obviously not the world wide opinion, and thanks to the USA it's proven!!!!

Labour will probably go one better - & put an Arab in charge.

Unfotunately, Yes. Ive lived in both the UK and USA. And racism is much worse in the UK

I think high immigration will make things worse
 
Well its ok to ask this BUT would India , Turkey, the Arab world or Africa allow an Englishman to be a Prime Minister....NOOOOOOOOOO There are other countries also that would not allow it. As it is England has now been overtaken my immigrants of different nationalities and lost its own identity.
