Is Toyota purposely covering up evidence?

Big time. I am an engineer and the gas pedal thing is a crock of crap. It would account for maybe 15% of the incidents. They have engine controller issues.

I appears they are honest now and are doing what they can to replace those defective parts.
It's Toyota's fault for having a big ego, and getting sloppy with the quality to sell more cars. Even before this scandal, Toyota owners were complaining the quality was going downhill! Yes, I think there is cover up and Toyota knowingly used a cheap supplier to gain more profits (China makes horrible cheap products). Why would Toyota use them if they are known for quality and reliability? Perhaps nobody would suspect or question Toyota of doing anything this underhanded.
I supposed they got too big to care anymore except for $$! Now Toyota has a tarnished reputation and have to gain consumer confidence back.
I suppose the US Gov't will drill them during the hearing in hopes of boosting our "Bail Out" American car companies sales? Just riding those nice cool waves at the expense of Toyota.
It took 12+ dead people for Toyota to realize it was time to recall all the vehicles.
When those hearings occur with the US Gov't, we'll find out more of Toyota's dirty little secrets. Wait and see!

I think its a bunch of garbage because first of all, you cant just use what you know today as a criteria for past actions. Thats kind of like practicing EX POST FACTO law. You have to use the information you know at that time and evaluate if the necessary actions taken at that time. Also, you cant just make a broad generalization. You have be specific because Toyota may have told certain owners that were directly impacted, but not others. Its not like Toyota will tell a Sienna minivan owner about a Camry safety issue. There is way more details than this and there is a lot of factors as well.

Any good company will do the right thing at the right time. Its lame people like that lawyer that blow stuff out of line. He probably just wants some revenge cuz he got laid off or something.

edit: Owner maintenance also plays a big factor as well. Not every problem can be blamed on the design when people dont care for their car. It can just be general maintenance. I suspect part of the problem lies within the owner's hands cuz for example, when my Toyota takes a longer distance than normal to stop, i get the brakes checked cuz it doesnt feel right. You cant just neglect your car and then blame the maker when you dont take care of it after all that use.
