Is tohou THIS popular?

The crossplayer is Yourichio "Jienotsu" Nagashima, a fighter well known for two things. Cosplaying, and getting knocked out by the upper tier of K-1 MAX fighters. His highest profile fight to this point, against Albert Kraus, was essentially a one-sided beatdown of epic proportions.

However, his cosplay gimmick has made him very popular with the Japanese otaku crowd, and he regularly has a den of cosplayers as a cheering section watching him fight.

Well, if you have HDNet, it's worth it. I love MAX fights when they don't have psychotic cosplayers. Petrosyan's run in the 2009 MAX tournament was a thing of beauty.

The Dida/Buakaw fight was the best fight on that night IMO. Dida's Bob Marley dance > Nagashima's cosplaying.

I think it goes beyond that. You have to give it credit. That much feat for a series of indie games. Then again, it's possibly the longest running series of indie/amature games ever made. Hell, there are so many game parodies featuring this series. One can understand the reason why it's popular, though.

I bet that deep down, ZUN is facepalming. He probably did not expect his creation to be this popular, and considering the result, he might not like it. He has some dignity, you know.

Huh.

Then for the sake of the niche that Tohou was supposed to appeal to, I hope this jerk gets Petrosyan in the Final 16. That would be funny.
