Is this the death of my G1? Please help.

Hello,
I'm a noob to these forums and to any forums really but I've been lurking alot in the past 24 hours due to a malfunction on my T-Mobile G1 phone.

As of yesterday, I am receiving the exclamation point error and able to get into Recovery by pressing Alt-L from the keyboard. I have tried all 4 of the settings numerous times. I have also reformatted the sd card. This phone is not rooted. This morning I reviewed the early stages of what it meant to root and my phone isn't even capable of that due to the fact that any file that I place on the sdcard it will read but will do nothing with. I get error after error message.

Yesterday afternoon, I plugged my beautifully working G1 into it's normal charger. It was all downhill from this point on. The phone kept getting force close messages, one after the other. The bottom of the phone got really hot. Then it restarted and that was the end. It would loop the restart over and over. Now it doesn't even get that far. Just to the exclamation point and like I said, I am able to get into the Recovery so I hope I am not bricked, though the recovery at this point has been unresponsive and useless. Below I will state some the error codes and stats I am receiving.

Basics:
T-Mobile g1 (US)
NOT rooted

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

I reformatted the SD card to Fat32. Right now on the SD card I have placed the dreaimg.nbh, unzipped from DreaimgRC-29.zip for which I receive this error:

--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(No such file or directory)
E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip
Installation aborted.

I have tried to include as much info as I can think of but if there's anything else you need to know, please tell me. Like I said, I did research the topics before posting. I love my G1 and hope this is not the end. If you can help me at all I would greatly appreciate it, thank you in advance.

Found this on another site

Have you tried using the zip file instead of extracting it? Some people are saying that this worked for them. Also, can you get your hands on another SD card for a few mins? A few others are saying that this also solved the problem for them.

Or you could just try these instructions

http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Downgrade_Guide_-_CyanogenMod_to_Stock

This will reset your phone to stock.

Good luck

Thank you so much for your quick response. I am working on trying the first link, the second link didn't work at all and I'm not sure why because I was very meticulous with it.

Also, before I saw your response, I went here:
http://androidandme.com/2009/10/beginners/guides/how-to-manually-install-the-official-t-mobile-android-1-6-on-your-g1/

I tried step 2 (step 1 doesn't work at all for me) and it was the furthest I've gotten so far. It got past the half way mark of installing and then I received an "installation aborted" message. I tried it again and it still wouldn't go but it is progress! I will keep you informed on how I make out with the first link.

If anyone has suggestions, I am open to anything. I miss my android so much.

Click Tutorials

Click Revert to Stock - Dream

If you have never been rooted, then just do this bit

Revert to RC29 (US) or RC7 (Europe) - ONLY FOR HTC DREAM (G1)!!!

I would certainly suggest trying a new SD card as well. Also, don't have it plugged into your PC when you do this as there have been reports of that causing problems.

Here is a huge list of downloads. You're after the official ones.

You could just follow the instructions for rooting from cyans page. I have a G1 and mine works like adream after following all his instructions.

Hope this helps
