I would prefer to work with somthing else, but for now all I have is a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L. If I want to start adding power should I start with maybe a big rolling cam? If so what else should I do while I am adding the cam so the transition will be worth it?

change the thermostat from the 195 to the 180 its tricks the computer in to thinking the motors is running cold and put autolite spark plugs and get a new air intake like an open element

Depends on what your intent is.

A different cam, will move your power around. It won't magically create new power, or anything.

If you get more torque, you'll lose top end.

If you get more horsepower, you'll lose acceleration.

It's all a balance.

But if your idea of beefing up your truck is to just mess with how it's setup, and not actually accomplish anything....go for it.
