I've searched the web and this forum but haven't heard anything that describes exactly what I have.

I've had trouble working at jobs that require me to stand in one place for long perioRAB of time, so I've tried to avoid factory and warehouse work. When I've had to stand a long time, my lower back hurts quite a bit. I put up with it, but by the end of the day, it is really bad. During my breaks, I sit down for the whole time, while my coworkers remain standing as they go outside to smoke and talk. I always wondered why they don't sit when given the opportunity. Also, walking does NOT cause me any problems, only standing in one place.

When doing office work and having to sit for long perioRAB of time (45 minutes or so), the back of my legs hurt and get nurab.

I always thought these 2 things were normal. I've just been informed that it's not. I'm 39 years old now, and I've always thought it was normal.

Today, I had an interview with an employer and he asked me if I had any physical limitations. I mentioned about how it's hard for me to stand in one place for hours, but I can do it if there is work that involves moving around more. This job required standing, so I didn't get the job. The employer told me about how it could be a problem with my sciatic nerve and that he knows several people with the same problem.

Is there some excercises that I can do to make this problem go away? I already do some bodybuilding stuff (you wouldn't know it if you saw me!). Things like bench press, squats, etc. I know the problem didn't arise from this since I've had the back pain way before starting these excercises.

Low back problems can be difficult to diagnose. You may want to go to your doctor and get a referral for Physical Therapy or a chiropractic evaluation. When you stand if you put a foot up on a step/box/wrung to a chair it helps your back stay in a better position. Pain is not normal and you should have it looked into. If you can walk that is a good sign.
