is this normal while applying for financial aid?

i applied for financial aid in college and they asked for a copy of my taxes, i took a copy of my taxes and a couple of weeks later i receive the copy's back on my mail.....is that normal?? why did they send back the copy's that i took them?? any info on this would help, thanks

by they i mean the financial aid office.....
