Is this Normal For A Tongue?

I was attempting at some exercises that I do for tongue & speech therapy, one of which is extending my tongue and attempting to touch the tip of my tongue to the tip of my bottom chin.

Anyway, upon doing this, I noticed for the first ttime that the very back end of my tongue (towards throat) I see as though my tongue splits into two and forms a left & right curve similiar to a little "hill." As if my tongue forms two little hills, one on each side.

Is this normal? Have I just noticed it for the first time? Because it looks very weird.

Hi, CandP . . . worry not! Your tongue has a natural indenting divider that goes all the way back. This indentation appears to get deeper and even separate as it gets close to the epiglottis at the back of your tongue.

Having never stuck your tongue out that far before, you are simply not familiar with how it looks.

Thanks so much for the reply. Is it because of lack of exercise or something, that I have not noticed? I mean, I do understand what you say that it is normal, however, being that I have not really practiced extending my tongue, should I need to do this more? And, should this indentation be more, less? Or is it fine the way it is? Thanks.

It may vary in appearance from person to person but basically the structure is the same for everyone.

If there had ever been anything out of the normal, your doctor would have said so when you had to stick out your tongue and say "ah".

Nothing special you need to do. It is what it is. ;)
