I recently received the following email from an ex lover with whom I haven't spoken in two years. I neither solicited nor contacted this person prior to this letter being sent. I found the tone of the letter to be both cruel and unnecessarily aggressive. I protested in another email to a mutual friend who evidently sent it on to my ex. So I received another email, telling me that it is only my negative attitude that views this message as an attack rather than an olive branch. So, since my judgement is evidently unreliable whan it comes to telling a dove from a dagger, I'm throwing it open to a more impartial forum. The email appears as I received it, with no editorializing save that all names have been blanked out. I'm not really looking for editorials about what an a**hole I am, or my ex is or anything like that. This message makes both those points self evident, requiring no further elaboration. Just read the following and tell me how you would define it: Attack or Olive Branch? Thanks for your time:

I will be brief since apparently I am also on your "I don't speak to you anymore" list.
When you were in jail, I received a collect call from a (Not my name) in HP Jail. I don't know a (Not my name) in HP jail. So I declined the call. That, according to XXX, was you trying to call me. I truly didn't know, and didn't know you were in jail up there.
Just wanted to clear that up, since I didn't know where you were, other than you made the offer that you wanted to mow my lawn for a year in exchange for bail. Good thing I remembered that you were traumatized as a child from mowing lawns...so I didn't want you to be re-traumatized again. Why would you make an offer for that when you clearly can't mow?
I hope you are doing well. But that is a relative phrase, yes? I will remind you I am not your family, nor your daughters, and did nothing to incur my position on the said "List." But you will surely hold anger and rancor in your heart, because that is the food that feeds your soul.
