and she was under 18 at the time..Did palin take offense to this one too

Gov. Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. And you thought John Edwards was in trouble before! Now he has really done it. -- "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," 9/2/08
Don P hit the nail on the head!

Palin needs to stop lying about what people say just so she can stir up hatred and feigned indignation. Letterman never said anything about "rape" like the Palins say he did, and he never said anything about their 14 year old daughter like they said he did.

If Palin wants to play with the big boys, she needs to grow a pair.

They're both stupid, sexist, misogynist "jokes" and are both equally idiotic. Though, really, I think Letterman's is a bit sicker, since the implication of the joke is basically the hilarious rape of an underage girl.

I think Palin's the biggest idiot of them all, but these jokes just further prove that we live in a still-patriarchal culture where men feel like they have the privilege to crack funny jokes about rape (perpetrated about 98% by men) and wanting to f*ck the vice president, etc.

On the other hand, Palin doesn't give two sh*ts about women's rights until somebody cracks a rape joke about her own daughter, in spite of the millions other rape jokes cracked at the expense of other women, particularly in the media. So there you have it.

Hey, people blathering about how he's "just a comedian," let's see how many jokes "just a comedian" can crack today about blacks eating fried chicken. Sorry, jokes aren't "just jokes." The media affects Americans profoundly. And jokes sometimes easily play on REAL and REALLY HARMFUL racist and sexist stereotypes.
