Patient:
I am in my early 20s, male.
Medical History Prior to this Issue:
None
Symptoms:
As of 7/13/10,
-Bloating easily
-Feeling full after a few bites of food (temporary, resolved now thank god)
-Constant belching - I mean hours of belching, both voluntary and involuntary, even after water
-Feeling like I can't take a full, satisfying breath
-On occasion, burning in the throat - this is the only heartburn-like symptom
-All of the above gets worse in the heat/polluted city, and when I exercise in that kind of environment
-Stools are lighter than normal and are in smaller pieces than normal
What I DO NOT have:
-I haven't thrown up.
-I haven't had diarrhea.
-I don't have hoarseness.
-No pain behind the sternum or breastbone (heartburn symptom?)
-I don't have blood in stools.
Been to three emergency rooms, was told in each of them that it was a gas problem. Finally asked a gastroenterologist, he said that it's 'stress' and gas causing it. I take Prilosec twice a day (no idea why, doc didn't say I was having heartburn) and Mylanta after meals, and also cheat a little bit with Tums (he didnt prescribe them). The symptoms aren't as bad now but I bet if I was off medications, I bet they would be. Water does make me feel a little better and breathe easier.
I don't believe it's gas. It can't be. If you have bad gas, you flatuate - I have barely flatuated at all during this week. Any relief of discomfort in my abdominal area comes from prolonged and constant burping.
I looked up the symptoms of Acid Reflux, and officially, none say that breathing problems or constant burping are symptoms of it, yet all over the internet there are threaRAB by people who have both of those issues accompanying their GERD.
Is this just gastritis that will go away with my current medication plan (does gastritis ever go away?)? Is it an ulcer, GERD? Any help would be appreciated. I had plans to join the military, and they are being seriously endangered by this unhealthy outbreak. I need every single symptom, especially the shortness of breath, to go away permanently.
My entire life is enjoying good food, exercising, and trying to become something great. I cant do that if I this problem stays with me.
