Is this exercise-induced asthma?

I realize that there isn't likely to be anyone here who can help me, but I'm anxious for any kind of input about my breathing problems.

I'm trying to figure out if what I have is asthma. Exercise-induced asthma is the only thing any of my doctors have suggested, although I was never diagnosed with asthma and have never been given an asthma medication that helps. Also, I've taken a couple of tests for asthma and neither of them were positive.

My symptoms are primarily caused by exercise. Basically my breathing becomes painful and I cough a lot. I don't know that my breathing becomes "difficult" in the sense that I don't get air, but it becomes very painful. The only way I can describe the pain is that it is like breathing-in something sharp that cuts the inside of my throat and lungs. Then I start to cough, and the cough lasts sometimes for a few hours. I sometimes cough-up mucus, and a few times I've coughed-up blood.

I've seen several doctors and after speaking to all of them I have no idea if it's likely that I even have asthma. I've tried albuterol, Epinephrine, and a few other types of inhalers and none of them have helped. I've tried these drugs before exercising and after the symptoms started and I've gotten no result either way. I was given a peak-flow meter and I blew the same volume after exercising as I did before exercising. I was suffering from the symptoms and still the meter did not show any reduction in my exhaling capacity. Does this mean I don't have exercise-induced asthma? Or is it just an unusual kind? I was also given a pulmonary function test and that was not positive, however, as I understand, if I had exercise-induced asthma it wouldn't have showed up in that test anyway since I wasn't exercising.

So does anyone have any thoughts for me about whether this sounRAB like asthma? Does anybody have similar symptoms? Did anybody have to go through ten different medications before they found something that helps?

I'd appreciate any thoughts that anyone might have.

If pre-medicating doesn't work, then it probably isnt asthma. That being said, how do you medicate beforehand? If you just do a puff and immediately jog or whatever, that won't help. There has to be a time lag between medicating and exercise - typically 15-20 minutes -and you may have to try various nurabers of puRAB. It took a little while to work mine out to 2 pufs, 60 seconRAB apart and 15- 20 minutes before jogging.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried a variety of doses and played around with the time. Nothing helped even a little.

I tend to think there's something else wrong with me, but no doctors have suggested anything.

You should really go get a physical or whatever its called.
Go get a whole checkup, because something tells me that this isn't Asthma related.
