Is this considered irony [used in poetry]?

"In the safe woods appeared a petite, light brown deer/Which approached a trickling stream that was very near.../A lion appeared, leaving everyone agape/All the animals ran for their lives to escape.


Is irony being used when the "safe woods" was a calm scene and a dangerous lion appears?

If not can you explain how I CAN use irony in this poem? I wrote this poem (this is only part of it) but is it using irony?

Yes I know lions don't live in the woods

which is what I was trying to do :)
 
It's irony because the poem starts off in a peaceful, calm forest environment, (where lions don't live, mind you) and then all of a sudden an animal that doesn't live there pops in and ruins the tranquility. You don't expect it at all, just the opposite of what you think will happen happens. That's irony!
 
Yes its irony, it sounds like a good poem too, i'd love to read the rest of it, unless the deer dies, then no thanks, but ya thats irony.
